Nice buy, silver suits the E46 perfectly.
Im glad you have bought it knowing that you may not 100% be able to afford to fix it, just enjoy it and if the time comes to sell it then so be it, at least you are enjoying yourself until then

As you say jambo I need to keep a tad aside incase something goes wrong etc.. I can own the car comfortably... Its just the cash id usually spend on the imp
I don't have a huge amount of pocket money to waste each month like some on here but im comfortable because I never go out
i was joking mate. good on you for getting something you want. wish i had gone for an m3 but the fuel costs would've killed me as it has to be a daily.

Auto mode is pants but you can play around with the settings to change how it shifts i.e slowly or sharply.
SMG 2 is well documented now so people really need to take the scaremongering with a pinch of salt and just look after it by servicing things more frequently. They sugest when the car is cold running auto 1 or S1 till oil temp is up then going up to S2-3 depending on your preference.
SMG does take a while to get used to but everyone who seems to buy them are converts and there is a reason why it is in the flagship CSL. Good choice John. Manual BMWs are wank IMO

It's one of those situations John, I could buy one but that would clear me out and if it needed major work ie like Graham's or SMG pump etc I'd be fucked.
Can't do that with a baby to take care of I'd rather save up say 20k deposit and get a new M3 with warrenty etc. Get a nice driving vid of yours up though

I still havn't had a go in an E46 M3 yet. Had a shot of the older E36 model a few years ago but I wasn't that impressed.

a lot of random issues with the pumps seem to be solved with simple regular servicing (Replacing fluid and making sure acumulator is ok) LEaks are very bad news are the more it leaks the harder the pump works to maintain the pressure, the more it does that the less it lasts.
My SMG I has different settings to yours, its more simple as in less modes to choose. But i usually keep mine in economy/auto (smoother shifts lower down revs, keeps it in second untill dead stop) this seems to have served me well. Nearly had it a year with not one issue.
Not bad for a car thats 14years old, nearly done 100k and "will blow up everytime you drive it"
Ilove it. If i can afford an E46 again, it will be SMG II without a doubt.

Well I've driven my fair share of real "sports cars" and the way people wank off over the M3 it better be the best thing on 4 wheels when I get my go in one.
