Proving to be a bit of a nightmare to try and find 2 cav slabs as I've already got two here and had them repaired and sand blasted so I've swapped the £20 scrapyard smoked depos for 4 15'' MK4 Astra steelies with tyres great deal for me and he's not doing bad out of it. So now, for a bit of fun the car will be bog standard looking; steelies, all badges, no spoiler, hidden back box etc.
Painted one of the engine mounts and put it back together, although it's now been filled with silicone as there was a fair bit of play in it. Will get a new one if it starts knocking or anything but for now it's not that bad.

Also made a start to the engine bay, I'm going to leave painting the bulkhead as it'll never be seen anyway, just clean it up. Everything else is being sanded down, treated and painted. Really happy with it actually as there's no through holes. Just surface rust and a bit of pitting. ARB will be coming off and getting painted too.
Before

Here's a 50/50 of the O/S being done and N/S not touched.

Back on it Monday as I'm off work

So, I had the strengthening plates welded in yesterday so tonight after work I started prepping the bay. Firstly I put a coat of anti rust stuff over all the metal I had removed the surface rust off, then the bottom panel got it's first coat of underseal, then I primered the areas I intend to paint. Tomorrow I'll be applying the star silver/laquer and hopefully another coat of underseal and that's the bay finished
This is the stuff I bought, I prefer the brush on undersealer as opposed to aerosol stuff

I put the anti rust stuff on all the areas I'd removed surface rust off, and the places I intended to paint.

Then the bottom panel got its first coat of underseal, along with the strengthening plates. First coat of primer starting to go on too

Then primed the rest

Time consuming job, but one of those you'll regret not doing when the engine is in!
Good work!

Exactly, time consuming but if I do it now I wont have to do it again
Today I got more done. Engine bay got painted, and bottom panel got 2nd coat of underseal. I also started on undersealing the arches, taking the plastic arches off too so I can treat any rust and to also underseal the metal underneath them.
Got the bay painted, also 2nd coat of underseal.

Took the arch off, just surface rust again. No holes.

All rubbed down and coated in anti rust stuff

I later coated that with underseal too. Underneath again was just surface rust

Got id of it all and undersealed the full arch, messy but rewarding

Just another 3, the back panel and underneath to do

Considering leaving the plastic trim off underneath, did you put yours back on?
