Of course not, but thats an extreme view.
The ones ive driven (manuals obv) i have been forwever throwing the gearstick around to get the thing to move, then it goes woooosh then nothing. Its very frustrating compared to a smooth petrol. As I said, it has advantages, namely nippy low speed driving, its a solid feeling with a heavy block and all that torque at low revs.
As I said, I would happily own one. It doesnt mean they are perfect though.

Love mine, easy effortless driving with some pace when needed.
Not noticed having to use the box anymore than other petrol cars I've had or when driving mums, still sit in 4th at 30 as i have done with petrols too.
Will own another petrol in the future though but probably as a a bit of fun.

Agree about revs, mine needed about 500rpm more, 6 cylinder diesels are better for revs as they are more balanced, which also means they don't rattle around as much.

As I said, I would happily own one. It doesnt mean they are perfect though.
I don't find myself changing gear anymore than I would in our petrol, infact thinking about it I'd say less as for round town you never even get to 5th or 6th in the diesel. 
Only thing that annoys me is if you catch the rev's wrong when trying to hasitly pull out from a junction and it bogs down till the power comes in

I never found I was changing gear more, probably actually even less if anything as diesels have their power low down so found I didn't need to change down to accelerate like I would in a petrol.
I want a 330d.

The last part is the case for turbo petrols too though.

Deffo Dave, my fiancee has a 1.2 Turbo and accidentally pulling out in 2nd low revs is dangerous tbh!
