Im not sure you've got what i was getting at mate.

You've only got to look at Twitter or any media outlet tonight to see the outrage at what has happened in Boston today. People are incensed that such a thing could happen

Yet, the same people do not react like this when they hear of something terrible happening in a country they dont care about.

"American drone strike kills hundreds of civilians in Pakistan" "Meh"

"Terrorist bomber kills 10 in USA" "FUCKIGNGOMGCUNTSKILLALLTHECUNTSHOWDARETHEY?!?!?!?!"

Both events bad, but only one matters. Interesting.

Well that just makes "our" actions even more inexcusable, if we're meant to be the smart ones.

Innocent people being casualties in a war, usually by top targets hiding themselves amongst innocent civilians so if in the event they are killed the press looks bad for the "infidel" (because they are too cowardly to put on a uniform) comparing some innocent people doing a fun run on US soil at peace time are murdered in cold blood?

Utterly different things.

Seriously Jonny

Not really, quite the opposite in fact. I have pretty much a neutral reaction to either event. Wrong maybe but thats the world we live in today. Nothing surprises me anymore and i wouldnt let either event influence me emotionally, otherwise id be a crying mess everyday.

Its good to know im not a hypocrite though. Thats one thing ive got.

You really believe the US Army (or ours or any) hasnt murdered ANY civilians in cold blood? Thats quite naive, especially when soldiers have been arrested and charged for it. Its the same thing.

I walk down a street in America, shoot 3 in the head. Outrage

I walk down a street in Afghanistan, shoot 3 in the head. Meh.

Evolution hasn't got anything to do with it. It's more a case of people being able to relate to one event than the other, which is kind of sad but that's the way it is.

I'd probably visit Boston, whereas I've no plans to go anywhere in the Middle East.

Thats exactly what im getting at and you're right, it is the way it is. People find it easy to emotionally detatch themselves from things they find difficult to relate with.

They said it was patriots day, so a lot of military there who would of been trained to help and for those kind of events, which I'm guessing is why that was targeted in particular, but at the same time, was good for the injured as they got help immediately.

THIS!

It takes a special kind of person in the moments after a explosion to run towards the scene. Brave people who deserve a good pat on the back!

I think it also depends on your circumstance.
If I was there with my wife and kids my priority would be to get out ASAP.
If I was there alone or just with friends I'd like to think I'd stay to help.
