I'm a mechanic. Work for a little garage in formby industrial estate. Get paid fuck all. Do all the work. Only 2 of us that work there. I keep 30 taxi's on the road as my main job. Then customer work as a secondary job.
Always busy
Never get a second to myself
Love it though.
I got here by going to school, being disgraphic and failing my gcse's, went to collage. Did a year of computing. Then a year of computer games programming, designing and technologies, then 2 years of mechanics. Then looked for a mechanics job for a year with no luck. Got fucked around by Audi. The. Got offered this job after my mate quit cos he "couldn't be arsed"

tom_simes, I see you're in Bristol. Do you work for DESG by any chance? I'm from Devon and live close to the Supacat factory so often see high end military vehicles driving about. I've applied to one of DESG's graduate engineering roles so I'll see what comes of that.
Just finished a Masters in Mechanical Engineering, so currently unemployed but hoping to go into something Automotive based or with a respected company such as DESG or Rolls Royce.

I used to be on the DESG grad scheme, but have since progressed a couple of steps up the management chain.

Job Title: Head of Design, Development and Testing
Company: Military, Commercial and Offshore Boat Builder
Qualifications: BEng (Hons) Naval Architecture (Small Craft Design)
Job has great highs but massive lows; testing is awesome and I'm currently waiting in Southampton to launch a boat for two days trialling. Bored to fucking death of the office bullshit though and daily bolotics that go With it. I work with some serious retards and cocks which doesn't help the situation.
Aside from that I'm plastering a lot now; I took a City and Guilds qualification last year with the aim of doing stuff on my own house and flats but I've picked up quite a few domestic and commercial jobs now including a hotel which I'm working through one room at a time

Joiner for BAE systems in portsmouth naval dockyard.
Qualified as a bench joiner with the company, but with all my city & guilds in yacht & boatbuilding. I mainly work on board the ship's doing maintenance and refits. Currently working on hms st.albans refit.
Always wanted to be a joiner, ended up doing my work experience there in 2004 and applied for an apprenticeship before my gcse's. Got it and still there 8 years later. Used to love it but can't stand it now, planning on leaving next year!

Research manager for a market research agency based in Liverpool, although I’m moving to a bigger agency in Manchester next month. Job is good in that it’s quite varied from day to day and involves managing the design and delivery of some interesting projects, downsides are how fast clients want projects turned around which = stress. My new employer operates in markets I’ve not worked in before so I should get to learn a lot more there which is always good. I’d rate my job as about 8/10 – I obviously didn’t set out for a career in market research, but it’s worked out well in terms of what I can offer and what I get back from it.

Work as a trainee E&P engineer for Atkins, work in the side on the company. Previously worked for WYG and Amey mainly doing CAD work and then started college with Amey, doing Building Services.
The college course is a waste of time for what I do every day now
