Has anyone ever in the history of driving actually been hit by a wheel sticking out of an arch?

Also if you have fancy rims and tyres your not likely to be hitting a kerb.

I take it the reason it illegal is pedestrian safety? I may be wrong.

Personally, I quite like the stretched tyre look. Don't really agree with sheep following the scene. You don't have to mod your car in a certain way just because others do, I know that I don't. Is modding not just changing your car to your own taste anyway?

I can't understand why anyone would sacrifice the drivability of their car. It seems madness to me.

However it dosnt do me or anyone else any harm so I can't see an issue with letting them get on with it if it's what they enjoy

How does it affect driveability? As I said, I had 235/35/19 on a 10'' wide alloy and did about 10,000 trouble free miles. I then went up to 255/30 as I wanted more rubber on the rear's. Again, plenty of mileage without issue.

I didn't really do it for the 'look', as personally, I prefer a nice bit of sidewall, rather than elastic bands. I did it because I bought ill fitting alloys

The only way it affects driveability is that stretched tyres will break traction quicker as theres less movement in the sidewall, from what i've read and personally experienced.

Not a problem if you don't drive like Lewis Hamilton everywhere.

Theres also the issue of people fit cheap Chinese tyres, to cheap toffee wheels and lower the car on cheap ebay coil-overs and then fit some shitty 'camber kit' so all of the load and stress is in the wrong place!

If it alters the scrub radius, then it will also affect steering feel, and return to centre, but obviously that only applies if they are done on the front too

Well that's their problem. I chucked goodyears on mine and they were fine.

Has there been a single documented crash in which the cause was determined to be stretched tyres?

I had contis on my CAV with a bit of stretch no issues at all,

Had rediculous stretch on my old e36 cab that had 10j rears, probably would class it as dangerous as it was major stretch but never had any problems with it,

Got cheapo tyres on my vxr atm as they came new with the wheels I bought, there fine in the dry, interesting in the wet though lol
