I have to say, i think the 1.8 SRi engine is a pile of poo. But then i heard a rhumour about the 1.4 SRi and tuning mods coming by Mantzel, and im 99.9999999% sure Vauxhall have done it again, restricted the power by a pants inlet manifold.
Latest claims from Mantzel, from the 1.4 16v SRi lump, is around 140bhp with new Mantzel box, cams, and Mantzel exhaust (complete inc manifold). 90bhp - 140bhp??? So the 1.8 16v, 125bhp - ???? Got to be in the 160's at least as its got such a bigger displacment.
Gets you thinking doesn't it
[Edited on 12-06-2003 by Daimo B]
Not really!!! just makes me think vaux ave gone soft.
How???
1993 - GSi -150bhp - redesigned inlet manifold and cams etc - 109bhp.
Vauxhall design their engines to to "economical" not balls out fast racers.

I have not driven a lowered Corsa C yet. But i have been out in quite a few lowered saxos. Corsa is deffo behined, but drop it and sort out the rims and would be right behined it. IMO of course.

Exactly.
Economical.
How do u make a car more economical. Quieter exhaust, slow the rate that the air enters the engine, drawing the power out, hence giving a lower bhp figure.
The 2.2 has only 145bhp odd. But has more torque than the redtop!!

Sport16v, who, me???
Sooty, standard suspension isn't that bad. I think Dons handles alright for a standard car.
But the Corsa B, Now thats a joke.
Even more so with a heavy engine

The whole design of the Corsa B (bar the shape) is poo.
Left arch sits lower than the right (chassis design fault)
Rolls like nothing else
Decent suspension, anti roll bar and top and lower struts should sort it. But thats £1k already

all the suspension of the corsa b is the same as the nove they just redesigned parts to fit made em bigger or smaller , they got away with it, but yeah its shit, i had a astra mk3 shit as standard after wheels & a kit it was good, the mk 4 handles extremely well compared to the mk 3, the corsa c does & will handle well as standard its jus a case of uprating.

matty, I actually have a 1.8 SRi.
Peak power figure may not be the biggest, but the driveability is great.
Handling and brakes are OK IMHO.
It is economical and (so far) reliable.
Not a lot of scope for mods though (fly-by-wire throttle), so if that is your aim, stick with B.
My verdict after 10 mths/26 K?
I love it !
