Whats the deal with these whey things? Are they bad for you? Do they just make you gain weight? How many drinks can you get from 5lb?

Heavy intense poundages, in the 6-10 rep range is effective for slapping on muscle.
If you train in the 12+ rep range you'll be toning rather than bulking.

Pure whey is basically high quality whey protein, and should be used in addition to your diet. They're not bad for you.
You can get weight gainers, but i don't think much to them, i'd rather feed my muscles with protein.
5lbs will give you around 70 scoops (a scoop is provided in the tub). A normal protein shake will consist of 2 scoops, so a 5lb tub will give you around 35 shakes.

Free weights will give you much better gains than machines.

Does anyone here take Creatine and have any opinions on it?

I have been considering it for a while as I go to the gym about 5 times a week and have done for quite a while, the difference is non existent!!

If you're just starting, 2 a day will be enough. As soon as you get up and straight after training. If you have one before bed, have it in milk rather than water because it will release the protein slower.
Apart from before bed, they're better for you in water. They taste nice in water, but in milk they taste like a McDonalds shake

5 times a week is over training.

The most import things are

Fuck heavy weights if your technique is shit you wont get anyway where
Sleep well 8 hours min!
drink loads water
eat regular and strict.
3 times a week! mon wed fri.

and you cant go wrong 5 times is OT. Also i didnt find my last stack creatine worked.

Creatine is good, but if you're on a budget and can't afford both... chose PROTEIN.
I can almost gurantee you're not making any gains because:

1. You're not eating enough.
2. Or you're not training intense.
3. Or there's a problem with your routine.

I thought i was training intense, until i started puking up after certain exercises... that's intense. Bodybuilding is all about pushing yourself through the mental pain barrier. Your mind will give up before your body.

I'm pretty sure I eat enought and I frequently leave the gym feeling sick and have to sit down for a while!

My mates think I go too regularly and I should cut it down to 3 visits a week... I'm not sure.

Introduce all the extra food into your diet slowly, don't cram it all in from day 1. Your body will need to adapt to absorb it all.
