Read this somewhere - "£38.5 million is agueros release clause in his contract but according to Guillem Ballague (spanish football expert), the release clauses in spain are only accepted if another spanish club makes an offer, not foreign clubs.
Therefore, the offer has been rejected."
That would be why/how they were able to turn it down then I guess.
Although SkySports say "Sky Sports News report that Spurs have bid £38.5million (€45million) for Aguero - but the bid was rejected, which does trigger his release clause but taxes mean the player would have to pay much more than that figure to buy himself out."
Apparently spurs have also bid for Llorente, Rossi and Negrado and been rejected on all of them.
Carroll is supposedly a £30m target if Liverpool lose Torres

Or Woodgate on loan, but that'll never happen

Rumours are that if Torres goes, you'll bid £30m for Carroll

Would rather the 8M been spent on Forlan tbh.
Agreed though, he would work well in the team, just hope we don't pay over the odds for him if we've got a few quid in the bank. £30m for Carroll is pretty immense too.
Edit: Spanish Prick? You not remember what hes done for us?

If Newcastle let Carroll go now it just proves there the managment's incompetence, would have been better off accepting Spurs bid last week and at least then they would have had the opportunity to bring in some new faces

I don't think they'd be that foolish to let him go tbh, I think that Leon Best could be / will be just as good. Would give Best untill the next transfer window to show his worth, and give Newcastle a shit load of time to hire a decent scout.
