Looks like one of those jobs that just need attacking, rather like splitting headlights.
Lovely job you've done aswell. Did you not have paddles originally then? I thought smg meant you did?

Nah Ben, just the stick. It's fine just with a Stick but I would love to nail it up the local hills flat out without having to take my hands off the wheel.
It's a nice add on IMO

Which headunit have you got Jambo? My alpine just has a USB socket on the back into which I've plugged a USB extension cable into the glovebox.
That way I can swap between an android device, iPod/iPhone or USB hard drive at will. I didn't need any alpine cables though!

I have the IVA D511R.
It's via USB, but has a split cable for iPod video part.

Reaaaaly pissing me off this headunit.
Everything and I mean everything works on it. Bluetooth all paired, iPod loads and plays....
But no sound
Connected every wire that's spare every single way that I can think of and nothing.
Think the cause of the issue is the blue/white "remote turn on wire" but I've connected it to everything to no avail.
Going crazy!

lol yes.
Ive narrowed it down to the fact the E36 has an amplifier which I previously did not know, so I need to tap into the amp wire and link it to the remote in wire so I can hear sound.

Can't wait to get this all hooked up, got so much to do to it. It's all coming along nicely now.

So I started the day with this mess:
Found the wire that was causing me to not have sound and wired it all up. Have a shite soldering iron, and upon re installing the unit the connection went bad so no sound again
Doesn't stick out at much as I was afraid of. Is so nice to use and so much faster at finding music etc. awaiting the harness I need to install the NAV. Not looking forward to it as there is zero room behind the dash now

Ordered these back in November but have only just turned up. Managed to dodge customs this time too. Result, due to Black Friday sales this was a fucking BARGAIN.
Right Xenon build V2.0:
Morimoto FXR 3.0 Full size bi-xenon projectors:
Coupled to Morimoto 35W Ballasts:
Linked to high quality bulb holder:
To power genuine Phillips D2S 35w Xenon HID Bulbs.
These lovely machined brackets are for Depo lights and a complete bolt on fix. Ordering a new set of depo lights as I'm sacking off the angels to go for a more oem look.
Will be using E55 shrouds:
Which should look like:

How come you changed the lights from the first set you made up?

Long story short, making a decent non bodge job bracket to fix them in there was beyond my talent set. They are ideally suited to reflector headlights, and not replacement projectors unless you are handy with making mounts.
These also offer even better output, using D2S bulbs and not rebased H1's.

That little lot there was £215 shipped. Then I will need a new set of Depo lights which I about £120 so not cheap! But cheaper than most factory xenon headlamp units and the FXR is regarded as better than bosh projectors in the e39/46
Can't wait to get them fitted.
Old ones will be for sale soon

Right so me and Jamie attacked this on Friday as you can see... What a job. Absolute nightmare, golden rule to follow... Remove the door cards!
Anyway, quick oil change:
Failed to reset service indicator with laptop as its so old and shit it took 20minutes to attempt the reset it, then it told me it couldn't see the instrument cluster. Presumably I hadn't waited the allotted 35minutes for it to respond. Vista so plan to wipe it fresh install of Win7 and re do the diagnostic stuff. In the mean time I will be using the ghetto mod of wire between two pins for 10seconds.

So Sunday, on with the roof!
After shot:
That took forever. Also swapped out seatbelt on drivers side because the safety label was all naffed up:
Old:
Forgot to take a pic of new one, will update it.
Then stage two on roof swap, the locking mechs. These where fiddly and annoying to remove, deffo don't fancy doing that again:
See the screw behind the sliding thing? Yup. Great design bmw.
Cheeky mid installation shot of my E46 M3 coupe seats, just look so good in my car.
Casualty of doing things in the dark though
Re synced the roof after disengaging the motors, supra singly easy. Followed the steps to realign it all and put the roof down. Then pulled it up, installed my new front lock trim cover (no pics) as the old one had broken, this is extremely common. Then attached it to headlinging and put roof down then up....
All works properly as it should No more getting out to assist the roof down.
Tin top tucked up for a few days whilst the roof stretched out:
And all back together:
Quick clean and saw that the roof leaks
This is the main culprit
So looks like a new outer roof will be needed at huge expense. Oh well. I suppose if I'm going to respray it another £400 to make the roof perfect is not a massive inconvenience!
Just bought a new carpet, bootlid and boot seal. On their way to me now. Clock is ticking......

Can you not just stitch a new window in? Maybe im looking at it wrong but the roof looks fine. My old one came out in about 6 bolts Not quite sure what you have ended up doing.
Good progress though, i love this car.

You would have thought a window would have sorted it. But alas no. Needs a new roof as the stitching and seal have gone and you don't get that with the window.
Yes it's physically held in with 6 bolts but its really not that simple. It's like saying a piston is only held on with two bolts.
