What a weird weekend from Merc, I guess somebody just royally fucked up on the simulator for their setup baseline for the weekend or something.

Seb back to his old ways, didn't put a foot wrong all weekend. I think Lewis could have challenged for P3 at the end but ultimately this was the best weekend he could have DNF'd from in the season so far... Nico nowhere to be seen so the points loss was minimal.

I wonder if team orders will come in at Merc soon, with Seb threatening #2 in the WDC. Assuming Merc performance was just a blib and they're back on form in Japan - I guess not for a while yet, but if the Ferrari is the car to beat again - I can see Nico being told to cruise and collect behind Lewis no matter what.

Unless the circuit showed up how much of their form is down to the engine and not the chassis.

It really has opened up the title race. If Hamilton & Nico didn't finish the last race and it was next Vettel would be champion! Hamilton needs to get another 2/3 victories and then hope Vettel takes some points of Rosberg to make the last race less pressured

The last race isn't double points anymore. I'm sure they scrapped it.

Ah - interesting - Didn't realise they had scrapped it. I think its wise as the last race should not count any more than any other. If someone has the lead they deserve it

Even on a "non engine" track, having a power advantage is always going to be beneficial - and I certainly don't think the Merc chassis is a bad one, they're smashing other Merc engined teams too remember.

Rumour has it JB is announcing his F1 retirement in Japan.

Just seen this:

Do you think it was an intentional crash?

Shame but obviously coming, Kimi's last year next year as well old dudes these days.

McLOLren have given him a really crap final season, but I will miss his genius radio messages and on-screen banter with the Sky team.

Practice sessions were pretty much useless today then shame as I wanted to see what was hapening with Mercedes.

Every year they insist on holding the Japanese GP during the rainy season. I personally enjoy watching the cars in the rain, but increasing health and safety bollocks means they just red flag it, which is obviously rubbish for fans.

I can see why they do it of course, it's just a bit boring watching an empty wet track.

Mental crash that! I'm not one of those who says that danger in F1 makes it more interesting, but Suzuka is such a good track.

Pushing 10/10ths in Q3 isn't just about ramping up the engine mode around a track like this, it's balls of steel as the margin for error is so small round most of the circuit.

Looking forward to tomorrow, I love early morning GPs

I wish more tracks would bring back the gravel traps, they punish you much more than all the tarmac run offs you see all over the place.

It was a big crash but was fairly safe.

Gravel is nice, but I honestly think a strip of uber slippy astroturf straight after the curbs will be sufficient, even if it goes back to miles of smooth asphalt afterwards.

It just needs to be enough to punish laptime if the driver crosses the line and then we'll see track limits respected a bit more, we don't NEED Monaco or Suzuka style walls and written off cars for every little mistake, we just need to see laptimes be punished for off track excursions.

I started at 7, was decent always like Suzuka. As mentioned it's a ballsy old school track and most of the drivers seem to like it also.

Some good racing today, Lewis pwned the entire thing great start. Interesting to see the more positive Rosberg who I think psychologically has accepted the fact he won't beat Lewis but will try anyway. Not sure he is as motivated as last year?

McLOLren actually finished the race which is good for them but seems that Alonsos comments have severely upset Johnny Herbert as he wont stop going on about it

Alonso and the GP2 comment wish they could show us the Honda boss' faces.

Lewis again, awesome, faultless.

Rosberg, actually impressed with his overtake manouver to get back up to 2nd. Good stuff. Still a no2 driver though.
