Spurs not wanting to play in the Europa is to do with next season's CL qualifitcation though. 'Arry said that playing Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Sunday, etc... isn't conducive to a good domestic campaign. And I agree. The Europa is a weak competition. It's been devalued somewhere along the line. I'd fuck it off too for a clean domestic season next year.

Agreed its not exactly a top competition but it would be nice to win something

I don't buy into that, as long as you utilise your squad in the early rounds, it can be a way of keeping your squad involved. Plus, you need a 'bigger' squad to compete in the CL, and i'd rather that squad had the experience of a european campaign the season before. It's all about progression, i'd like to see us take logical steps to climb back up the table and in the process we can develop the stream of youngsters we have coming through.

Your own form improved when you lost to Braga.

I'd rather not play in the Europa League if god forbid we weren't in the Champions League

Is that because you don't have Channel 5?

Oh well, that's concrete proof isn't it
As I say, unless you want to be yoyo'ing in and out of the champions league spots yoou need to learn to deal with the pressures of european games week in, week out. We still need to strengthen, that is pretty obvious.

Europa League is a massive competition mate. In fact as of next season it's going to be classed as more important than the Champions League.

Somehow the TV revenue and money will be the same as the CL. I'm sure Cosmo said that at the start of this season

Cosmo was probably involved in brokering the deal for that or something.

Of course I am? The shorter CL qualification served spurs well in getting them back into it through league position this year didn't it?
Matty the EL obviously isn't anywhere near as big or important as the CL, but as a building block to getting your squad ready for the CL is better than nothing. If spurs get back into the CL next year i'd put money on them being out of it again the season after.

Spurs got 4th position last season which put them into the CL (with some qualifying rounds), this qualification is shorter than the EL (but obviously they went quite far in the comp too) but they still didn't manage to retain that 4th spot in the league this year. If they want to consistently be in the CL then I believe they'd be better off continuing to be involved in european competition so there squad is used to the pressures it's puts on them EVERY season. If they don't get 5th (or qualify through fair play league position) then it might stand them in better stead to get into 4th next season (although I doubt it anyway tbf) but the same thing will happen again the year after and they'll have no CL football again. That's not a good basis for building a team capable of being consistently dominant in europe. We were ranked really high in Europe for years, even into last season, because we were consistently involved and it stands you well (look at who we beat over 5 seasons, not to mention a trophy another final and many quarter/semi final places). In summary, i'd rather be involved in european competition at some level, than not be involved at all

Fair enough, but I can see where 'Arry is coming from and there is some logic. Also due to when each competition is played. CL being earlier in the week.
