My mate lives in Edgbaston ..was thinking next week but I am also being tempted by a heavy weekender in Brighton now lol
Went on my first club run this morning .... local club do a very relaxed run at a pretty slow pace .... perfect for me to get a bit fitter and increase my miles. We did about 45 miles with a coffee stop and the pace and route was perfect for me to drag my fat arse around. Really enjoyed riding in a group, first time I have done it and it definitely pushed me out of my normal pace.
Suffered a bit the last 10 miles with cramp, really think some proper cycling shoes are my next purchase - finally sorted out my cold feet issues too ... seal skins, then a plastic bag, then another 2 pairs of cotton socks with the insole removed for more room lol - toastie!

Rode the new blue loop at Swinley Forest which officially opened today. Done 2 laps of the 6.5 mile route.
New red route is due to open in a few weeks time.
First ride in 3 weeks due to it being so cold.

Went out for a gentle ride along the canal paths with Bea this afternoon.
About 2 miles in the nice canal path gave way to a boggy mess looking like this:

I reckon my bike had an extra 5lbs of sticky mud on the wheels and frame!

Then at the 8 mile point I noticed I was sliding around a lot.
Turns out both my tyres were flat! Bea started laughing saying how gutted I would be to walk all the way home. Until I pointed out there her's were flat as well
Possibly sabotage by some angry git who didn't like cyclists on the path. Or could have been a load of thorns.
Either way, it was a bit gutting
I noticed on mine that I had a line of bubbling on both my front and back tyres where air was leaking through it and making the mud bubble. this like is about halfway down the sidewall.
Does that indicate that the tyres are a bit past their prime and should be replaced? Or is that natural?

Had exactly the same today - did Leamington to Knowle and back this afternoon and got coated in mud, had no grip and was sliding all over the place. Got a slow puncture about half way so just pumped it up and then got two punctures on the way home. After fixing them I got another about 100m down the path. What a rubbish afternoon!

went to 7stanes dalbeattie today, proper hard work in the snow. some of the northshore was unrideable. pretty deep. absolutely knackered, made it proper hard work. then about 1/4 mile from the finish i went round a corner, no idea what happened and ended up flying off the bike and landing knees first onto some rocks, lol.

Sanitised to what it was but; drainage, trail smoothness, flow and use of of the contours make it a really good ride now. Plus it's one way so no oncoming traffic.
Will probably end up going there once a week now its finished, just can't wait until the red is finished which should make it about a 13 mile loop.

Went on a pretty nice relaxed XC ride yesterday with the old man. Some places there was still snow but it had frozen. The bike sank with ride sank but standing on your own you didn't sink. Impossible to ride in.

Check out on the map far left/West the squiggly lines. Few cheeky runs in Chicksands Bike Park.

Got the bike out this morning to find the front tyre is flat. Conclusion, these Conti Mountain Kings are as durable as bog roll!
Any recommendations for some grippy, durable XC tyres? Used to use Michelins on my DH bike and I never got a puncture with them, do they do XC tyres?

Doug, Ed, what were you expecting alongside canals after recent events? flat tyres probably helped though it!
Have to check Swinley out again and now. Did an enduro race there last year, good fun

On tyres, I only really use one set for most of the year with a mud tyre for special occasions. Maxxis ardent on front and advantage on rear

What do you lot think of this?
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mobile/MobileModels.aspx?ModelID=59252
I don't want to spend silly money on a bike, as I haven't got loads to spare, but I'm kind of stuck going to trail centres that rent bikes out at the moment...
Opinions please.....

Don't have any experience of that brand. Canyon bikes often recommended for those on budgets. I have no problem buying bikes second hand either which can get you huge savings, as long as you can check the bike out, but others prefer to go new

Did 20 miles of the downs link today. What a fucking boring route. I had read that it was boring but thought I would give it a go.
It was a good ride, no issues with my bike. Only issue was how incredibly unfit I am.
