pics of the snapped shaft

nicely dead indeed. twisted it. splines are twisted a bit also. end stuck in the cv joint. winner i tell you.

so, fired a std calibra short shaft into it. fits nicely. took it back out on the strip in the wind and rain this afternoon. got a 12.2 which aint bad for the conditions, but i was more than happy with a 131mph terminal speed. suggests i need to work on the first 3 gears really to get it quicker as thats where its losing out the most.

still, quite happy with the times i got considering how bumpy that airfield is. time to get a few calibra shafts as spares from the scrap yard.

Got to expect it to put shafts out really, that one held up well to all the 400BHP+ abuse its had over the years.

yeah its had some snapping and breaking the last 2 weeks. clutch pressure plate first, now a shaft. then again, it gets used for the purpose it got built for so its to be expected. oh, and another thing that needs sorted, well 2 things is the exhaust is blowing slighty, bugger, and the back engine mount rubber is absolutely dead. i knew it was on its way out about 2 years ago. time to change that and fix the exhaust hopefully before the next crail trip.

still got more power to come yet. its just lacking in fuel pump flow. bigger fuel pump can then turn the boost up more. its running 18psi roughly at the moment. sort out the in-gear boost for the first 3 gears, add another bit more power to it also. lack of money is preventing me buying a fuel pump thats capable enough.

some mounts. required more for the reason the back rubber mount is absolutely feckin fecked, and has been for a year or so i just couldnt be bothered to do anything about it. engine moving around and twisting wont help it keep power down. i hope. either way, needed them so got them. poly bushes to get next. but that might be next month. cash is tight up cumbria.

they were on ebay. corsa with an f28 uses the same rubber mount for the gearbox that it would if it had a 1.6 in. the metal mount is made to fit the std tackle. the only difference is the driver side mount bracket on a 16v shell.

fitted 2 out of the 3 alloy engine mounts. nice bit of tin snip action involved to make the front gearbox one fit. lovely. this has however caused a new problem. its basically made it so now the engine is sitting on a slightly different angle, perhaps as driverside engine mount is still std rubber, not sure. alt now catches the chasis leg. bugger and doh. if new mount doesnt sort it out, means i will have to fit the rear gearbox spacers its never had them fitted before and the engine itself used to sit on a very good angle. may buy the mtec f28 quick shift thing also, save cutting and welding the linkage.

also fitted the equal length shaft. straight in, no dramas. so now running calibra shafts both sides. as yet to see any issues. apart from an annoying noise when alt catches the chasis leg, it deffo seems to go better. doesnt pull all over the place anymore. combination of shafts and mounts perhaps.....

next up, without pics was to fix the blowing exhaust. noticed a tiny patch of black on the down pipe, so that got re welded. then discovered where it was actually blowing from was the manifold to turbo gasket. bugger. means front end has to come off to get to it. will just interference fit style, no gasket. most people i know with gt30's etc dont run gaskets.

all in all, good fun.
