I know tony had done a 8:54... but I have no doubts he'd smash that time with a clear track.
I wish I had been able to time all laps tho, the one i took Warren G out in seemed quick and was clear! but no clock was running.
My original plan was to do some laps, get used to the car and then do some good laps on camera by the end of the trip, but it was SOOO busy it was just pointless.
Plus I was destroying my tyres and going sideways through foxhole after slowing form 140 mph to 110 mph with Jr sitting next to me, shat me up a little too much. Just felt it was pointless trying to chase times (especially when so busy) as you end up pushing rediculously hard for something so pointless.
that said, my aim was sub 9 in a (pratically) standard car, with standard tyres and that was done.

Yeah I still think you'd of beaten it with ease without the traffic... considering you were stuck behind that big black bus for so long and the bikers at the end.
To be honest, by the middle of the monday I had - had enough. It was too busy, I was sick of queueing, sick of lack of torque in the s2k and really pushing the limit of grip on hot standard tyres.
However, once I watched my vids of laps last night and saw how much traffic was slowing me down, I wish I had actually stayed 1 more day to do some really clear laps.
That said, I did think... well technically if I ever go back I'll only be aiming to beat a 8:57 - where as if i'd of got a nice clear lap and done a 8.30-8.40 - I'd of had to beat that next time which would be
I think my next trip will be mid week, or on a weekend which doesn't have much track time... thus hopefully quiet.

Why not?
I always wore a helmet / got my passenger to wear a helmet.
Jr is a good driver and was getting that Astra to do impressive lap times!
Thing is, you can't say 'I won't crash' - as even if you go slowly or drive carefully, accidents can and will happen, and you cannot guarentee for other driver's actions. I was hearing about cars getting side swiped and all sorts out there.
Why take the risks without one?

Adam I was gutted I never met you. Jr and co came into PistonClause and were like 'I've just met Adam D!' I agree, Sunday was insane.
I got 1 lap in Tony's car as passenger... then waited about 3 hours to take him out in mine on track. Then waited hours to get back out on track again and never got a chance Was crazy. I've never seen it so busy. Total grid lock around the roundabout, the queues going down each way for miles, having to wait hours to get out of the overflow car park. The '2nd lap queue on the track' was tailing all the way back to the 'gantry' on the main straight...
Worst bit was, when you actually got out there on track you just had cars and bikes everywhere and accidents all over the place to avoid.

An S2000 with a racing driver who knows the ring can only get 8:39.

John that's a full lap mate.
we're talking with Bridge to Gantry times. You can't do full laps on tourist days, so BTG times are the ones you see joe public post up.
Honestly John, you watch the vid of my 8:57 and you'll see without the hold ups easily would've been 8:40. (but that'd probably be around 9:20 full lap you see...)

It's really not worth the watch Best bit is me chasing down the ring taxi and it doing drifts infront of us on adenau forst but apart from that, most of it is just a display of getting held up / letting porsches past and a demonstration of what happens when a s2000 falls off vtec
More entertaining is the clip of me going flat out through the foxhole compression and then having the car go sideways at over 100 mph with jr sitting next to me. Both of us let out a bit of poo I think.

There were some really good drivers in our group tho, (obv only going to mention the ones that I sat next to on laps), but Tony (Fast_as_you_can), Butler, Jr, Warren G - they're all great drivers ... really committed!
I unfortunately didn't get a passenger lap with OJC, but watching from track side he looked like he was going really well too! I await to hear how they all get on today, just gutted I'm not there

ill be going again thats for sure, more like june, july time, full week and in a different car that will actually go round corners instead of being wrestled round them
i filmed once, and nearly went off,
best timed lap was 10.52
then got a 12 in the damp.
monday i did a good lap. felt good, no incidents, and phone went under the seat so dont know what the time was. but it was a enjoyable lap.

It's honestly shocking mate. I swear this car is no faster in a straight line than my 106 was. On the motorway it wasn't any faster than fad's clio 182.
The problem with the s2000 is that once it falls off vtec, you've got to wait for ages to get moving again... This isn't a problem on a clear lap, but on a busy lap, you have to slow down for someone and then you've fallen off vtec and lost all pace. You'll see in the vid, but in the later half of the vid, I'm going to pass a mk5 golf gti at about 120 mph on a up hill section when he pulls across the front of me and slows me down to about 100, I'm then off vtec on a uphill, this golf blasts away from me... I catch him up at the next corner, but then he slows me down and blasts away again... I catch him up in the carrousell, he slows me down and he blasts away Bastard! You can hear my in the vid say to my passenger 'right, he'll brake here, I'm going to go flat out through this one and will get him' and I sail past thank god.
Bikes were the worst tho on the whole weekend, you'd catch them in corners they'd slow u down and then on the straights they'd pull over to let you past, but you had nothing to get past them with so they'd be bored and shoot off, then next corner you're behind them again! Warren had this issue too big style, was pretty frustrating all weekend.

i didnt have that problem paul, most stuff was passing me, i swear if i had a clear lap id shave 30 sec's to a minuite off my time, im always on the right getting overtaken
plus i was backing off on the straights purly cos i couldn't remeber what was coming up round the bend,.
but i really really enjoy'd it. times or no times, its a hell of a experience and i didnt do what seem'd like many did and stack it into something

Wish i had got round to taking you out Paul. The fact it was so busy all the time put me off even starting to queue, as the track would be closed before we got to it each time. Are there quieter times of the year there?

that's the problem tho, the box is stupid... there's a point in between where you're off vtec in one gear, but if you downshift you'll be on the red line. Around the 5500 rpm mark...
So I'm at 5500 rpm in 4th, got nothing... it's going no where... but if I downshift to 3rd I'll be instantly at around 8500 rpm or higher. It's made worse on hills, which nurburg has a lot of.
On a clear track it's not a problem as you can easily keep the car in the right gear and keep it buzzing from corner to corner, but its when u have to slow down unexpectedly, like a bike nearly losing it infront of you or being held up through a section on a hill... you're stuck in limbo - just off of vtec (5500-6000 rpm) - but going too fast to really downshift and get moving again. Honda = Fail.

Alright easy does it! Was a simple observation!
As for insuring your cars, as most if not all UK insurance companies don't cover you on the ring, did you just risk it and cough up the cash if you crash?
