I think it will get worse before it gets better. Colleagues from Lincs are deployed in London right now, and do not know when they will be home. I (and other PSU officers) am on standby to go, possibly London, possibly elsewhere in the country. It's that likely, that there is a bag of my overnight kit and food (police canteen food is shit, if there is any ever) packed ready to go. Have warned the wife and boy too - not a nice feeling from our end whatsoever.
Just been talking to my old Sgt who's on duty now, Durham, Northumbria and Cleveland PSUs have been deployed down there

When I saw all the niggers rioting on Tottenham high street I knew I had to find somewhere safe to hide where they wouldn't go.
I hid in the job centre.

Ok - PSU - Police Support Unit - aka riot police
eta - its been a long night - work til 2 then watching news til 5 and not sleeping half expecting the phone to ring early hours. Going home to wake your wife at 3am to tell her to sort childcare for the next few days in case i have to go is not a nice conversation.

No its not actually - PSU is voluntary - therefore we don't have to do it. Some forces it is mandatory, not mine or many others. We do it because we want to be there if this happens, to protect the public. If all the PSU didnt go, then London would be a hell of a lot worse place to be right now
