There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

Same with any engine conversion realy.
Driven LOTS of corsa's with various engines and think ive got to say the x16xe on tb's was the most fun.

Where as you can get 150bhp from the X16XE with an inlet, cams and a decent map and that should come in under 1k.
you can't remap the b ecus so a aftermarket ecu and map is about 1k isnt it?? cams 250+ inlet 120+

I should have put 18XE(1) TBH.
Any Mobby, not really as you can get a Unichip for quite cheap really.

Yes because you can map it to suit your mods.

The best cheapest tuning route for the X18XE1 is to throw the Simtec70 management in the bin and run the Z18XE (Simtec90) management then go down the turbo route like the Corsa C boys
Been toying with purchasing a MS1 system, just need to find a nice big jar of patience.

This is something ive been looking at. For now i will stick with the X16XE as i cant see the point for very little extra BHP gain.
Im more looking at going Z18 and not X18

i got my 1.8 for 200. With all included. If you look around there's so many about. Best bit is no special shafts or mounts.
milage?? what was included. i checked ebay and this was a good price, noone had everything i needed or wanted extra for all the bits. i was going to pay 375 if i didnt get this one
32K milage, but took a gamble as matey couldn't actully see the engine code, and the gamble paid off lol. cam with every thing though i've pretty much binned it all now lol
what have you binned?
inlet, exhaust manifold, air con pump, power steering pump, engine loom, ecu, car loom the lot got no need for it, going go tech and bodies
and my bodies + management will come in around 1000quid then just needs mapping

about an extra 10 I think. maybe more. the z18xe has 125 iirc.
When I first fitted my X18XE1 I took it to TOTD with CorsaSport, It was Just under 116bhp but it was 135lb/ft of torque.. In near enough standard form it was on-par with XE'd corsa's.. You've got to remember BHP isnt everything! The lack of power is offset by the massive weight saving, the extra torque and its ability to rev a HELL of alot faster than an XE.
There are several Z18XE turbo Corsa C's running well over 200bhp on standard internals so that is my next step
20 kg odd isn't really a massive weight saving

Its more like 50+
You have to think about these things logically..
The peak torque is just over 2000rpm which means the delivery is nigh on instant, and when you change gear the revs drop straight into the peak torque band...
Its not all about the numbers its about where they live

same car, similar weight way less power and less torque. its not something you have to listen to. its pretty obvious.

surely the weight diffrence betweet small block and big block is not 50+ kg
i am all for 1.8 small blocks but i am haveing a hard time beliveing that a 1.8 with 115bhp will keep up with well matained standerd c20xe

where does this 115bhp 1800 make peak torque at?

Just over 2000rpm..

The engine is over 40kg lighter and the gearbox is around 10kg lighter.
Big block uses the big block box.. And F28 is again even heavier!

but in terms of acceleration, ie keeping up with the xe, you need your peak torque to be as high up the rpm as possible. and that just isnt. you cant combat the lack of power, and torque made at lower rpm by saying the engine itself weighs less. its just not how the powers that move the mass of a car in terms of acceleration work. not when the difference is 50kg estimated.

50kg is a light passenger, that's not that much.

Its the complete opposite.. The lower the peak torque the better acceleration, if its higher up the range you have to wait for the revs to build backup before the car is pulling as hard as it can go..
Now top speed and anything over 60 is a different story, the XE will be faster.
