this car should of had a vic check!!! it surely should not be on the road if it hasnt had one??
Get your facts right mate, VIC is a Vehicle Identity Check, this is carried out to check the documents, VIN numbers, Chassis stamps match-up.
A VOSA inspection is what needs to have been done, or an engineers report.
Just because its CatC doesnt mean its had a major smash, most sports/ prestige cars that have a smash are very expensive to fix, i.e. M3 bumpers, wider front wings etc..
Its just been too expensive for the insurance company to see it worthwhile fixing, so its doubtful that it would need an engineers report, unless it was structurally damaged.
VIC check is all a cat c gets done, it's just to check it's not a ringer, nothing to do with how it's been repaired.
exactly but all cat c cars have to have them! cat d cars dont

I hope you informed the police of this fucking prick, its fuck-wits like him that cause problems like this for innocent people further down the line.

I know, thats why there is an engineers report to make sure the car is safe to go back on the road

So is the outcome of this:
DVLA dont know its a CAT C thats the reason its not on the Logbook?
HPI sites think that its a CAT C
How would they know but the DVLA wouldnt?

Insurance can register it as a write off and without declaring it to the dvla I think, possible that the dvla were never notified.
Or above is a better answer if that was changed.

im sure it was brought in when i worked at the bodyshop which was about 2 and a half or 3yrs ago!
i shouldnt worry about it not being shown on the log book! what colour is it under the carpets etc?

You saying it's a cat c should be enough.
If they know it's been a write off and don't check anything they might want to know themselves they either shouldn't be buying it or don't deserve to know.

Id be trying to locate where it was damaged. Otherwise my head would be telling me its been nicked at some point & cloned with a cat C damaged car of a different colour.

I had a CAT C ZM and had no trouble selling it; also you couldn't tell where the damage was but i knew it was front corner; but still couldnt tell.
Have you tried to trace the service history through BMW; my CAT C didnt have it when we bought it but rang the main agent and sent the book round to the necessry places and it added a fair few ££'s to it

I maybe playing dumb here
But the registration has been changed before.
The REGISTRATION has a cat C registered against it,
Can you check the vin to make sure that reg was on that car when the cat C happened?

Where are the chassis numbers on the M3?
Check the surrounding areas for welding.
My S3 had the plate changed and you couldnt see it with the big plastic trim on that covers it up. They also changed the dash plate and the whole engine, just to marry-up the numbers. Was a 'pro' job
