lol the point amf is making that off the car you can get into some places you cant get to when its welded on the car.

In thery makes a better job.

Car looks better already. Good to see your restoring it to its former glory.

You can get into everywhere no problem when the engine is out and everything is stripped off.

I don't see how in theory it would make a better job because,
A. If you welded it on once it was painted it would burn the paint
B. You have to clamp the panel into position before welding it so that would also mark the paint.

I've never known anyone to paint them before they are fitted. At least I'm doing it myself and not doing what the majority on here do and pay people to work on their cars!

Well its been a while since ive updated this. I was in 2 mind with what to do with the car, due to also having an Impreza and Astra GSi currently off the road.

But after some serious thought. Ive decided to keep going with it.

Last week saw me strip the interior out of it ready to get valeted and cleaned.

After my work on Friday I went up to Mark's. Mark, his grampa and I cleared a space in the shed to get my car in.

Once it was in it was time to get stripping

Here it is as a bare shell. With no tank, brake lines, fuel lines ect

I removed the rear bumper and arches but have no pictures of that

After many hours lying underneath it with a drill and wire wheel. I cracked open the hammerite, and painted the underneath. The pics are of its first coat, its had its second coat of paint and it looking mint

A few parts that are away to get sand blasted ready for painting

that is all for now. I should be up doing some work on it this week sometime, so updates as it happens

Well I didnt get much done tonight, got a few bits back from being sand blasted. The rear axle and tie bars.

I also got the fuel tank painted, steam cleaned the filler and pipes.

My tie bar and track control arm poly bushes. Im still waiting on getting the rear axle ones through.

A couple of pics underneath with the heatshields trial fitted. Im wanting to give the floor another coat of white, im not happy with it yet

And finally the 4 inner arches. Ive only painted parts of the front ones because the plastic arch liner will cover the rest up. I would have had these fitted, but im waiting on my new plastic clips arriving

Im hoping to get a chance to go get some thinners after my work on Friday so I can get the rear axle, tie bars, TCA's, brake drums and other bits and bobs sprayed gloss black.

That is all for now!

Well today I got my plastic clips for my inner arches and my headbolts through.

Just needing a timing belt kit, water pump and clutch now. Then the engine can go in.
