a mapped astra 1.9 derv (not tuning box!) would be quicker than an astra gsi
maybe about the same as a stage one astra with 230bhp
but if it has a vxr turbo, and maped, nope
quite alot have boost surge and dont boost smooth, they need new boost solienods,
and when they are like that, they drive shit,

My gsi is standard, including both cats in the exhaust and running the factory map. On my boost gauge it will overboost to 12psi and holds 10ps, untill 5600rpm then it drops off to about 8psi till the redline. My astra is well quick for a standard example, I've even shocked an evo fq-400 owner from 30-100ish, and easy pulled away from a proven 280bhp zaf gsi. People under estimate astra gsi's from my experience and lot of examples have boosting problems. Oh and it makes my mates 200bhp ibiza cupra look like a 1.2 after 2nd gear

well....yours clearly isnt standard if holding 10psi
they run 1/2 a bar, and should run 6psi i think...could be wrong
but sound like yours has been played around with

I was told by turbo technics that a good standard z20let turbo should be 8-10psi held and 10-12psi overboost depending on condition of the boost controllers and standard recirc valve, these are the figures they quoted me off their system.
iirc stage one map on a gsi is 14-16psi and 230-240bhp, which is same as the astra vxr's base map i think.

1 bar is 14.5 psi i think. so 1/2 a bar would be 7.25. The only mods to mine are solid boost pipe and d/v, although I have bypassed the rear bcs and vaccuum box. Might get it on some rollers soon as I've always though it was nippy for standard.

would be intersting to see...since you say does a 280bhp zaffy
does it make a difference bypassing the rear boost soliod and vac box?
id prob do that and fit a new bs

I run a single vaccum line from the inlet to the recirc valve with 3 T's for boost gauge, baileys and fpr. One thing it does do is eliminate the rear bs from causing problems. The rear bcs bleeds boost from the oe recirc valve (not sure if only 1st and 2nd gear) so it maybe the reason mine boosts a little higher.

At the end of the day both cars are great, i've always been a fan of the GSI too. But they are both completley different beasts.
So you need to decide what you want.
