Yeah... I definately felt I drove harder in my £2000 106 gti, than I do in my s2000. Both were daily drivers mind, but I actually wanted to smash the 106 up (to give me a reason to move on and get rid of it).... I'm only just starting to get the confidence to drive the s2000 harder now (although that's partially due to the fact I've let it get in a bad state, so it's value is low enough to not care about smashing up) - but still can't drive it as hard as I'd like.

... but...

Cheap Car or Expensive car, there's still a difference between someone who can drive well or not.

The reason Ian was quick wasn't just because he was driving a cheap car he didn't mind binning... he was driving very well / committed!!! He was braking so late / not at all and carrying immense speed through the bends.

OJC was driving well too, but yeah I do think ojc was being held back a bit knowing he has a lot to lose.

I know I drive the saxo harder in one way but in another way I dont as things like the gearbox feel fragile. Plus if I ever bin it at high speed financial cost will be the least of my worries

i think the key to ians staying ahead was the brakes and light car tbh, braking late meant he could get on the gas quicker the other side.

as for the cornering mine was doing exactly the same on the f1 gp track in germany, the car has a natural tendancy to lift off oversteer and its really controllable when it does, was even doing it when i picked jr and willay up from the pub

they are really easy to drift

My fav bit is 3.30 on the exit of quarry and the rear is sliding on lift off, shit exit but fun for driving as the front has more grip than the REAR

That video is boss Oly, very happy with that.

There's a few times that you could have had a go, the most obvious being the one where Lee was behind and you tucked back in before Tower. I also get the feeling that you want to go quicker in to Avon Rise. I was nice and steady in to there while it's a bit wayward.

Great session though. Nice to get out in some well matched yet different cars to see how we each treat it.

It has also occurred to me that you'll also still be able to go on track for Total Vauxhall Live but I'll be a passenger that day, will be on the blag for rides

Vegga would be a beast, well up for some gangster strippage, perspex windows, sell the wig and buy some tyres. Nice and low, Cleland decals on the rear windows, bonzar.

Not sure what you meant but if you mean the "block" on Lee:

Start this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPb0fKqKzPE

At 3:39, start this one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hIZBY0OHcE

Play them alongside each other and you'll see the manoeuvre in context. From Olys car, all he's doing is conceding the overtake before the marker, which is the correct thing to do.

Lee got past anyway later. That Nova is an animal.

That's a proper sideways moment in the Puma You should merge your videos together Ollie, like Steve did with the rear one in a box on the same video

I dont mean to be be rude about ollies car because its a decent bit of kit and the stuff hes done to it has made it a very capable car, but the 90's saw some awesome fwd handling cars, 106gti, saxo vts, puma, fiesta etc etc, that IMO just havent been matched since.

When I said that a 106gti could possibly own a Corsa VXR on the track and everyone went off at me, well the videos today suggest theres every chance that I wasnt wrong

Don't be absurd you anus, to start with Ian is running semi slick tyres.

Then you factor in the price difference.

If I was a lottery winner and I was out there in the Astra with semi slicks and the thought of loosing an expensive asset didn't matter I'd go for the overtakes in places where in the vids I didn't because it would have meant me being later on the brakes than I would have felt comftable with.

yes theres obviously a lot of factors to it, ians running slicks, but you have an lsd, this was a track day with other cars and not a proper timed lap, which may well be different in that case.

Also your car is an astra not a corsa, a corsa may well have done worse then you, i dunno you've owned both so you'd be in a better position to tell.

I could still have been way off the mark when i made that statement about the vxr and the 106 gti, but some of the footage may or may not suggest otherwise

Do you understand the difference a set of semi slicks make on a warm sunny day?

This is the decision I had to make when it came for me to decide if I buy a LSD or buy a set of R888's.

I went for the LSD as running a road car on slicks for me would be stupid, it's not a true to life reflection of the capablities of the car.

The diff makes hell of a difference as is seen in the rear facing camera as Warren fights the GSi out of bends

I'm with olly here. I did coombe in the coupe when it was under 2 years old, a shonky (slow) sierra decided to dart across me (from behind) to get in front of me in a corner, I just left him be safe in the knowledge that I still kept my car.
