Its to be expected, the relative running costs are MUCH higher on the VXR8.. Compare a V8 Audi A8 to a Diesel one. The residual differences are MASSIVE..

not wanting to go off topic too much here but on the VXR8 note, i bought mine new last year for £23,700 and i still see the same sort of mileage ones for sale on PH for around the same as i paid.
service through Monkfish is £150
tax and petrol is the real killer here, £435 tax and a fairly decent (for engine size) 23.7mpg average over past 14,000 miles

Thanks for topping this.
Went yesterday but PCH/PCP deal isn't going to be any good for us as Rach will be doing 18k a year we worked out so it's not any cheaper.
Looking at second hand Astra SXi 1.7CDTi now, seen a nice one thats done 28,000 miles in silver, 3 door on a 57 plate for £7,493 so going down that route.
To raise the point of the engine choices, Vauxhall now offer a 95bhp 1.3CDTi in the Corsa D which is more economical than the 75bhp one and road tax is free.

No mate I don't. If you go into Vauxhall and ask for a brochure on the new Corsa 'Energy' the details are in there.

95ps engine sounds a lot more interesting! Can you get the limited edition one with that engine?

95bhp CDTi Corsa sounds
I would imagine the additional cost over the 75bhp model will outweigh the money you would save not having to tax it though. Plus you can always box the 75bhp to 98bhp.

The price difference between the 75bhp and 95bhp is £600.
We given up on the idea of a new car, too expensive so if she gets the job going to get another Astra.

We picked up an 08 5dr Astra 1.7CDTI Design with 18kmiles for £9400 for Jen.
The 1.7 is quite pokey too. (100bhp)

1.7 can be boxed to nearly 150 and doesn't have the swirl flap problems.

I use an Astra forum a lot and loads have the 1.7. Again I've not heard many complaints about them and if they had alleged issues they'd post about them like they do with the 1.9 150.
