You probs wont make a profit on it due to high maintenance/age. I'd say try and get a vert around now and sell at the height of summer if profit is the main thing on your mind. Few go through but not often as he is mostly interested in ex fleet cars.

That's the problem I had Warren. I would love one but they are just too much to insure. Everything else I can deal with (I'd buy a manual anyway so no SMG problems) but the insurance is like £3500 FC. My Mazda is just as quick but £1400 FC.

I would still have an M3 as I see it as a 'sensible' car. I wouldn't spend any money modifying it so would just drive it for what it is, which is a damn nice car for the money nowadays.

on my traders policy they seem more worried about value than what car it is, although they do know what car it is

Oh I forgot to metion the fuel pump problem too. Noticeable on cold starts, car will sometimes "kangaroo" or "pulse" the throttle. Doesn't bring up any codes but is a well known problem as the STD pumps are dogshit

Ive got the SMGIII on the M5 and after my old auto RS6 I swore I would never have another auto.

When I looked at the M5 I hadnt really done my homework and thought the SMG was a glorified automatic much like the RS6.......its really not! As people have said its a 7 speed manual with a twin plate clutch which is operated hydraulically. It can change gear in milliseconds, far quicker than anyone with a clutch and stick could and you lose none of the feel of the car either!

Dont drive an auto and try and compare it to an SMG as it isnt the same and dont let the internet scaremongers put you off either! SMG has its problems but every high performance car has its reliability issues somewhere!

When my BMW warranty runs out in a few months I have had a quote off warranty direct for £490 for 13 months. And I know what people will say to this, they arent worth the paper they are written on! (probably the same people that slag SMG gearboxes off even though the closest they have been to an SMG gearbox is driving past their local BMW dealer)
