no no completely seperate its lens related lol unsure whether to go down the 17/18-50 route or the 24/28-70/80 route 
therr is currently a 18-50 2.8 for sale for £199 which i could trade my 17-70 against for £110 or try and sell it privatly for 160ish.
or there is a 28-80 for £249 again same trade in price for the 17-70 but would mean losing out on 10mm low end but gaining more range.

Standard 18-55mm lens I think.
70-300mm Lens.

im thinking that it is very rare that i need to go to the 70mm unless im at combe but even then i rarely take anything with it being the wrong lens... time to get shopping lol.

You have a 10-20 so you're covered for wide angle and will only be missing out on 4mm if you got the 24-70. I'd personally go 24-70 as it'd be more versatile.

I am a mere beginner, like I said to Matt, I can take photos, but I am not a photographer.
Likewise. I have a Nikon D3000 which is their previous base model (recently been replaced by D3100). If you have Photoshop then you should try using RAW files instead of jpeg as you get a lot more flexibility out of it. I shot all my PVS pics in RAW (first time I've really used it) and it's easy to get much better pics than using jpeg.
