Ed, any plans for a battery powered one?
I'd love one to wall mount on the kitchen wall but it would have to be battery powered.

There's certainly room for a load of batteries in there - would have to do some calcs and tests though as I think it runs at about 0.4 amps at 12v because of the high intensity LED's used.
Could halve the brightness though as those figures are at full whack.

Here's what the production version will look like:
Will be attempting to sell a few starting second week of April (going on holiday first week!). Website will launch in about a weeks time when the photography is done, http://wordclock.co

Cheers Jambo
Think I'll launch with the dark oak coloured frame though, like the one I sold Tom a few weeks back.

Could you lay some tinting film over to make the not lit words less obvious?

Could use a grey diffuser instead of white, but it's the way I want it to look and the photo's not great soooooo...

£99 + ~£5 for delivery. Took a lot of work to get it to that price and it's still quite pricey! Would be able to reduce the price significantly if I were to order in the hundreds but don't have the money/capacity to do that.

I think it's been mentioned, but is it possible to do a battery powered one so it could be hung on the wall?

Done my sums, the power consumption is too great for it to be practical - you'd have to charge it every day I guess.

You'd have to get the power usage way down for batteries, 0.4A would be around (if my maths isn't shite) 9Ah for a days usage (40+ AA's)
Ed - Would worth looking into some form of brightness control/power saving and seeing if you can make a (usable) battery version, would certainly give you the edge over other people that sell Word Clocks (granted they tend to be double the price anyway).

It's got PWM controlling brightness already, so perhaps the thing to do is use an ultrasonic sensor to detect movement and only illuminate it when someone's nearby. Could run it at 6v instead of 12v to make it more battery friendly too - the problem is that the lower power LEDs aren't really suited for backlighting so need to find something more suited than the PLCC-2 package.
