It's not the same scenario because lots of people will be able to buy the TV outright.

Most people won't have 30k cash sitting about for a car or want to wait long enough to save it up.

On the grand scheme of things, it is.

It's not.

If you want to be stupid about it why not lease bread or milk.

Paying up something that costs 30k is not the same as paying up something that costs 2k.

Buying a high value car outright is absolute brain damage if you've got any other debt with higher APR's.

Do you'se do that aswell?? Have a house full of rented appliances, cooker, washing machine, the lot.

Sounds like it if thats you're outlook on renting a car. Same scenario in the grand scheme of things.

Even by CS standards that's a pretty poor analogy. The two aren't even remotely similar.

People that say "if you can't afford to buy something outright, don't get it all" are fucking stupid IMO.

You will just go through life having nothing nice.

What about buying a house? I would say 9 out of 10 people will probably NEVER have the cash to buy a house outright. So are you just going to piss money up the wall by renting just because it's "how you were brought up"?

people who waste their money on stupid material things, latest phone, booze, smoking, top brand clothes because they worry how others see them and then don't have any savings, then have to work like a dog to pay off their mortgages and finances each month are more stupid I think.

What about people who don't waste it on booze and smoking but want to have a nice car for the next 25 years while paying off the mortgage?

What about the people who don't do everything you just mentioned but still buy a house with a mortgage and a car on finance?

Exactly, all going to die, except the people who never get finance will either be very rich or not have any nice stuff.

I would never take out anything I couldn't easily afford btw, wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

Yeh I'm not saying I agree with people getting £25k finance on a car with no deposit, that's just stupid. But I think finance has its place.

So you can't have nice things unless you lend money ?

Is the problem with the western World I guess, people thinking material things make their life better, like driving around in rav4's because it's cool !

What are you talking about, yes you can have nice things.

I'm driving around in the rav4 specifically so I didn't have finance on anything else.

I'm not saying you can't have nice things unless you borrow money.

I'm saying if I had £10k in my pocket and wanted to buy a £25k Porsche, I could either buy it tomorrow on finance and end up paying £28k for the luxury of getting it. Or save up for god knows how many years and buy it outright. By the time you've saved up, your situation might have changed so that you can't get the Porsche any more, so you've missed out on that opportunity.

I think you'd be much happier if you put the Internet down and went to live in a tree in Tibet, there you can really lament on the wrongs of the western world.

I'm starting to get bored of these arguments TBH. The arguments against using finance are stupid/non-existent.

John, you bite too easy when Ravvy is talked about, so protective, it's cute.

Fair enough James.

I guess I just have an issue as I'm some sort of hippe, the western World's ways are to lust for material things.
It's almost child like to continusly want things, house I can understand but cars, phones, clothes etc all has an affect on the enrviroment. We buy something, use it for x amout of time, throw it away and start again.

But if people want a new car and want to get it on finance then that's their choice, is no right or wrong way to pay for things, only what you believe.

Thanks Dave, I think you are correct.

Peace and Love

Colin if you want return to invoice insurance cover try ALA.

I am just waiting for my alpine white 123D to arrive at the dealer. Dealer wanted stupid money for GAP insurance, ALA offers a extra £7.5K worth of cover and costs a lot less. Think I am even taking out tyre cover, its about £260 and covers you for up to 5 new tyres if you get punctures, pot hole damage etc. It does not cover wear and tear though but it is sods law I would leave the dealer and get a double puncture!
