You earn your salary and therefore your gross, to say otherwise is a bit silly! Plus the reductions to net aren't static, so you're better off going on your gross.
Either way, this thread was never going to have a good outcome and has just resulted in a lot of sour grapes and people arguing over who gets paid what. And tbh, if Ben is earning that then i say fair play to guy; not many mid-twenty year-old's earning that sort of salary. But honestly, who actually gives a fuck

unbelievable. Would you like me to take a photo of my last wage slip for you corsa nut?
I work on the outskirts of London, belong to a union and have had 7 pay rises in 7 years. We were also the last employee's to be employed on the higher wage structure. Since 2012, there has been a 2 tier wage system in place so new employee's get paid less.
I'm unsure why you think i'm lying?

Just to keep Ben happy..He has sent me a copy of a corner of a wage slip.
It says gross pay to date 45k. That solves that then.

Some real perks working for a large company, especially with the unions.
A lot of folk round here work for Rolls Royce and I'm always massively jealous of how well they get looked after.

I once left a wageslip in a pile of papers and one of my colleagues thought it was appropriate to have a look at it before she handed it back to me. I went cheesecake on her.

I would send you the whole wage slip but it has my bank details and employee info on. I'd rather not have that floating around on the internet.

I couldn't come to see you, my insane jealously would be too much for you to deal with. Seriously though that's a good wage for a job like that.

Yeah it'd not bad. Quite a demanding job though in terms of workload. A few guys who started in January walked out because it was too much for them
I used to work in a supermarket and got shit off customers all day, so i'm happy to do a job that isn't anything to do with the public

It does take a certain mindset to do work like you do. You need to be able to switch off but still be 100% switched on if that makes sense!
I'd just be planning in my head what mods I was going to do to my car everyone around our way is trying to get into Jaguar...One of my mates got relocated down south for mega money and they paid all his moving costs and his rent for 12 months

Some people in here are bullshitting for internet points. Some are not and are rightly doing well in life.
Got to factor in where you live/work though.
Living outside of London but working within it will generally give rise to a high income with lower living costs.
Living up North can work both ways, with generally very cheap housing and potential for some high income jobs.
Living down in the South West, we have huge house prices with some of the lowest wages. However, we have the Countryside and beaches, so that goes some way to outdo the lower income.
I could relocate and earn 50% more up North, but at the moment I'd rather be living a nice relaxed life in Cornwall.

Here that is a sackable offence, you can even be fired for discussing your wages with others. Mainly because there is no structure to our pay, mainly if your face fits you'll get decent pay, even if you are shit at your job.

I'd like to see that stand up in an employment tribunal You must work in a right pikey business. In any case, most employers don't have rigid pay structures throughout, only very large ones or specific industries. How do you know people are on more money if you get dismissed for discussing it?
Reading between the lines, you come across quite resentful at being (i assume) on less than other people you work with and blaming your "face not fitting".

We have a vast amount of companies, ranging from chip shops to a large property development business, which I work in. It is in our contract stating that discussion of salary can be punished by way of dismissal.
You are both right and wrong about being bitter Although I'd hope my face does partial fit, in that I've been with the company 14 years and undertaken a degree through them...
I've worked up through the business and seen how some people, including my self at some points would work our backsides off, doing extreme hours and getting average pay with no bonuses or incentives. Yet others who one of the bosses liked would get treated like royalty, yet did chuff all.
I've worked as a manager for some of our businesses and seen some exceptional staff leave because of this, yet the shit workers who suck arse are kept on and rewarded.

It's very rare in most working environments to actually get to a decent position without fucking people over along the way.
Most people (me included) seem to get used by lazy twats to do all the graft and they get the credit. The saying 'leaders should lead from the front' hasn't applied in most places I've worked.

I'm not sure on these open wage policies where everyone knows what everyone is on. My missus is a 5 year store manager at a supermarket and gets shit off the 16 year old weekend staff because the salary/bonus is easy to work out and for everyone to see.

Why does it matter though? It's pretty obvious a store manager would get paid more than a spotty 16 year old trolley wolly.

It doesn't matter or at least shouldn't but being in the public realm means that more than once, she (or other management level) have had the 'I'm not paid as much as you [quoting figures], why should I do it' opinion thrown at them.

My technician has pulled that one on me as he can look at what I'm paid under freedom of information (as can you all). I swiftly reminded him of the chain of command,

We ended up talking about this last night; the other issue is people in the store. They hae a big recruitment drive on at the minute so have posters up giving the 1-5year salaries and bonuses of all management level staff. She's had customers comment on her salary as well as a paramedic who came in yesterday after an old lady collapsed in the store, the paramedic moaned that she earned more money than he did - bit out of order really.

Aldi staff deserve to be paid well, they are worked a lot harder than other supermarket staff.
