Vauxhall Grandland X company hack and a Skoda Fabia VRS which is my birds.
Similar situation to Pow, in the process of a divorce. Had to sell the Honda 125, Transit minibus and my lockup including the Puma to keep the house and rental property.
Looking to get another Corsa C to get the NCB going again in the near future.

Last 18 months have not been great and hoping my come Christmas i'll be debt free to buy some new toys.
I've kept the house and I have a flat I rent out. Certainly not an investment portfolio just something to assist retirement.

Agree with you Gavin, I went back and forth and if I could afford to have a gtr as a weekend toy then it wouldnt be such a concern, but reality is I need something reliable. The ctr looks just put me off too much.
Yer they are not a look especially from some angles
Look forward to seeing what the new toy is

Erm, the looks are quite divisive
But yeah it surprised me too, its big, comfy, loud, handles well, has 2 years of warranty and can put the dogs and child in with all the crap that comes along with that and still have space

If it were me I would have just swapped the engine into the 435! but that's me.
I followed one of these down the M11 and tried my hardest to like it but just could not warm to it. I think it is crazy that there is pretty much an SUV version of every car platform in a manufacturers arsenal but I guess it's what the public wants right now. A guy at the gym (Single no family) just sold his Jag F type coupe and bought one of these too, perhaps its an image thing as it will only ever be him inside it, not for me personally. X1, X2, X6 etc it goes on. The X3 and X5 were enough IMHO, possibly the X7 as an alternative to Audis Q7 everything in between seems silly.
I have no doubt its fast, will take your word on the handling but the difference in COG from the coupe must be noticeable, sure its comfortable, well built and will do everything you ask of it so not trying to crap on your new purchase! enjoy

I'll be honest, I've not had a chance to push on or tackle some of the b-roads I know really well, however from the roads I've managed to tackle it's not disappointed (with regards to cog & handling).
I rarely keep a car more than a couple of years, so i'll drive this, enjoy it, and may ultimately decide it's not for me, I can say I've had the experience and move on. I know I loved the seating position in the coupe so perhaps the next car will be an M4, who's to say, I my end up gelling with this and go for an x4m or a Macan. Really, I still want and lust after a GTR, but I need a much bigger cojones to get into that bed

Yeah i guess going from the coupe to this will be a good test as to wether you prefer the different seating position. I know a few that since they moved on to this type of vehicle they have said they feel too low in a coupe/saloon and won't go back to it. Many people genuinely prefer the higher up seating position. The M4 actually felt like a very big car for me, it was a bit of a spatial challenge and felt too wide to hustle down B roads if any traffic was present. The scalpel turn in ruined by not being sure exactly where you were placing the front end, I guess when you revisit your familiar B roads in the X4 it will give you a better feel, you may prefer it.
I've never had the balls to pull the trigger on a GTR! I guess the 'it drives like a playstation game' crap was drilled into me by the interwebz for years, but on looking deeper into owners reviews (Jay emm did a great road test of one) it appears they are actually very mechanical feeling which would very much appeal to me. I think for the money i'd rather scratch the 911 itch though!

Having driven Lannys for some years now I can tell you I find it a lot more difficult to pull out of junctions in something lower, definite advantage to being higher.
Moreso than the disadvantage of something like that X4 in handling, its still going to be excellent and the engineering will belie its size.

I am going back in time to 2001 and showing you this post about sacrificing driving dynamics and sensation of speed in a low down car in favour for ease for pulling out of junctions, you younger self will be disgusted

The other thing is the UK is just not equipped for these ever increasing size SUV's, not just so much back roads etc but parking spaces. There is a leisure complex near me that is not actually that old, already it cant handle these things. The soccer moms trying to manoeuvre in there and doing 10 point turns Imagine if everyone ditched the family saloon and estate car... oh wait they are

Yeah I don't really park anywhere next to stuff, couldn't be arsed using mine if I had to, hate squeezing out the door and waiting to come back to dents down the side because people are clumsy dumbasses.

I agree coupes are a pain in the ass to see things from. If someone pulls up next to me in the GT86 its game over
Ive been out in my friends M sport X5. One with the silly powerful diesel lump in. Was mega impressed with how flat it cornered and the grip. The adaptive suspension works wonders and defies physics
Would never buy one myself though. I will live with not been able to see where I am going
Although neighbor has a new "puma" he has brought home from work. I actually dont hate that design Shouldn't have used the puma name thought imo

Oh good god they are disgusting and the a horrible misuse of the the Puma name. Ford do have their moments, I remember when they badged the 1.8 Escort's as GTi's for a period

One thing about a Merc thou is a "night pack" means everything black apart from the badges, which to me looks terrible so got black badges on the way.
