In the context of the quoted figure of £1000 its 38% different, quite a lot.

If something was reduced from £100 to £68 would you claim the difference was nothing?

If a shop was selling a Mars bar for £400 would you say that was nothing?

If someone bought a sofa for £1400, and then found out it was reduced to £270 at the same time they bought it, would you say the difference was nothing?

Had a new tyre fitted to the Focus. The original Goodyear was getting very close to the limit.

I went for something decent this time
Both rears are now Toyo Proxies

They're probably a harder compound. Longer wear life doesn't always equal better tyre. Performance is most likely affected.
