I got BC's with extenders for £565 delivered, so £200 cheaper than HSD.

To be honest, if I bought the BRs with rubber top mounts I'd still be happy with them I bet.

I made the mistake of thinking the top end ones were just better for all applications.

had a set of HSD's and they were crap, replaced with BC which were must better, HSD's rusted, stuck, adjusters broke on them twice

It's never going to be a replacement for a dry sump or even just properly baffled sump - but it's considerably cheaper than both and for the lateral G's i'll be pulling - more than adequate, I hope!

Will be lying around until my next oil change in march/april. Bought it now as it came up on a forum, brand new unused etc - just never got round to fitting it, so it saved me a few quid.

Remember my "noisy gearbox"? As a quick reminder, I swapped the linkage bushings for solid ones some time ago and shortly after I found my transmission to be very whiney.

I removed two of the bushings (one on the gear leaver and the "stay" bushing) as they were easily accessible and put OEM back. That fixed the whine, but I continued to have a horrible grumbly/scraping/knackered bearing type sound effect when off throttle. This sound went away when I pushed the clutch in, or got back on the gas.

A couple of "specialists" thought the box needed dropping and splitting, to replace one of what could be several bearings.

I was unable to replace the final two bushings for OEM because I lost half of one of them I've been searching for quite a while to buy a replacement but it became apparent that I needed to spend £100 on a linkage bar which included the bushings. I nearly did that, ordered from a Subaru dealership who had to back order from Japan - 4 weeks later I go to collect it and he ordered the wrong bit

I've had the week off work this week, so finally I couldn't take the waiting anymore so I decided to fit the remaining complete bushing that I had, plus half of the other one

When I first did the job, I opted to disconnect one of the linkage UJ type things whilst it was still attached to the gearbox which meant that I couldn't really torque the bolts up properly due to access. This time I decided to remove the whole lot from the car, so first off was the entire gearbox support:



I then had to knock out a roll pin which held the linkage onto the selector thingy in the gearbox, bit of a pain but with a few socket extensions and a punch - I managed it eventually.

Few more bolts, and out she came:


When dismantling the joint which contained my target bushings, I got the feeling I may have done them up too tight last time

Quickly knocked out my solid bushings, leaving half of one in place:


Then rebuilt with the OEM ones, at proper torque.

Getting everything back on the car was a proper pain in the ass, combination of my jack/stands not being high enough for me to raise the car much higher than the depth of my face ( ) and poor access, but after an hour or two everything was back into position and torqued up appropriately.

Had to go for a shower as my back was killing, and I was covered in grease - but shower and fresh set of clothes later and it was test drive time.

I was properly skeptical, but to my surprise it actually fucking worked Soooooo happy/relieved/etc. I had mentally set aside the £1000 or more to drop the box and have it opened up, so well happy.

Boring update, but a big one for me

Not a fan of those plates..... it is just a windage tray.... it wont stop any lateral movement of oil. It will help prevent the crank splashing in oil if its tossed about though.

The flaps may even slow down the natural return of oil :/

I ran a Lateral (GrpN style) baffled sump for a few years.... but still took out two engines :S

Both cars are on Dry Sumps now.

No arguments that it isn't as substantial as a dry sump, but for the cost of a dry sump I could have my engine rebuilt to OEM spec

I very nearly bought an RCM baffled sump a few months ago, they're about £600 though. I've read a tonne of posts from various engine builders and tuners and it seems like these plates are a reasonable compromise for someone who will run the car like I will. I won't run slicks, I probably go round corners slower on R888's than you would on ditch finders

I'm pretty sure the danger to these engines is hot/thin oil escaping into the heads on long sweeping curves. This baffle plate should help there as it restricts how much oil can physically slop out of the sump.

I'll be monitoring my oil temps closely on my next track day, if my temps get "dangerous" on my short sessions I'll be sorting a thermostatic oil cooler too.

As for the flaps reducing oil return efficiency, Cosworth, RCM and Lateral all make and sell their versions of this plate and I'm pretty sure they've done their research... or am I being naive?!

Yep that's on the menu. I had a CDF Racing one bought ages ago, but ended up selling it on - a) it wasn't return to sump without modifying it and b) it was just too damn big.

Once I go FMIC, I should have more engine bay real estate to play with so can look at a proper catch can solution.

Pleased for you about the gearbox mate, big expense to have it took out,split and checked!
Nice to see the cars still getting sensible mods for track use, that baffle plate looks a nice bit of kit, will

Thanks Daine, the gearbox thing is a massive weight lifted - feels like I've got some money to spend on go faster bits now

The baffle plate I could probably fit, but I'm holding off till' my next oil change and I was going to get a specialist to do that. I do my "winter" oil changes myself, but like to keep the record up of getting the car to a pro at least yearly for the receipts/stamps etc.

If I pull my finger out, it may even be joining a turbocharger and some other bits at the same time

I got a bit of a non-update from KW today. Basically they've taken almost two weeks to decide that they don't have the gear to service them in the UK so they're off to Germany. Should hear more next week.

I have done a bit of cleaning up on the two bits I had left behind though, the springs and the upper spring seats for the rears.

First up the springs, nice and easy. Take to powdercoaters!

No idea how long a powdercoat finish will last on springs which have so much flex/movement. I tried though.

I bought a couple of products too, one to protect these coilovers once ready for the car, and another to clear off any nasty surface rust that spoils certain corners of my car. (underneath...)


Went to clean up the rear spring seats and they were actually a bit rusty. YAY I could try my new goop...


Spunked it on, left it overnight:


Voila


All got a nice coat of my rust-proof waxy stuff:


Then a wee eBay find came up. Bit tatty round the edges but by FAR the cleanest I've seen since I bought this car, except a NEW set which went for £160
