Mate fell off twice tonight landing on his head both times on sharp rocks. Luckily he is ok, helmet saved him nicely. He hasn't ridden the lakes before only done man made trail centres. I think he is sold though on the experience.

i done similar yesterday, killed me biking then squatting then biking again.
I love short to medium steep hills, however long ass low gradient hills are horrible

Been out on the road bike tonight, averaged 18.1mph which ain't as good as I used to be on the same loop. I've become way too heavy now I do a desk job. Gonna have to put some work in.

Did a couple of laps at Kielder today. One with some newbie older gents then nipped back round the opposite way for a bit of extra mileage.
I foolishly thought it would be quite flat being round a lake. Wasn't really. Fooking red hot and I ran out of fluids 10 miles from the end. Arse..

Fair play mate, I'm kinda stuck at the 55 mile mark if I'm honest. On the road bike I get bored/sore arse. On the MTB I just get plain fooked also judging by the long list of pb's you got I don't think you were going slow!

Nice! I'm attempting a 100 tomorrow with the club- pretty out of shape at the mo so even at slow pace it's going to be a struggle.

It's a good challenge! Hard work towards the end, was getting the feeling I couldn't press down on the cranks anymore at certain points!
Think a few of the PBs are a little misleading since I've only done some of the segs once or twice before! Was draughting a tractor at 38kmh for one of them though

Right then, my first road bike is due this week so just looking at pedals/shoes as it's all new to me.
Got my eye on Shimano PD-R540 SPD SL pedals and DHB cycling shoes from wiggle.
Anybody got any recommendations or even use the above?
Cheers

New PB longest ride today - 111 miles! Slight disaster after 50 miles when my rear tube exploded, changed it, reinflated and it instantly exploded again - then realised it had a huge gash in the side where the inner tube was poking through. I was calling a good mate to come and pick me up when the rest of the group rode 6 miles out of their way to Halfords to get me a new tyre and save my ride! That's the beauty of group riding. Actually felt pretty strong towards the end- 150 miles is next big milestone. Good to see several other club members getting their first centuries today. Can't be too upset with the tyre that failed - it did take me from one end of Britain to the other without so much as a puncture. RIP Schwalbe Durano!

It's just a matter of miles in the legs mate and pacing yourself - I'm 17 stone so it's not like I'm a natural cyclist. Just got to keep the pedals turning. Once you can do 30 miles at a reasonable pace - you can do 100 slowly. Bizarrely I was in more of a state after a quick club run over 40 miles on Thursday.

Nice one
I'm beginning to get addicted to milage and hours in the saddle now. My next goal is 200km - I've got a route planned out so I think I'll do some training and go for it next month.
