When I was 20 it was a fortune to insure me on a 1.4 civic, let alone a 4ltr Jag

I'm sure that would go down well if you were speeding and hit someone and killed them

Shame about getting caught! We all speed (well I do) but its just a matter of being caught.
60 in a 30 sounds bad, but I cannot really judge you until I've seen the road. Some 30 areas are flooded with houses and kids (ie. housing estates), some 30 areas are just industrial estate wasteland.
Either way the system will take care of you.

it was the same for him to insure the jag which was a n reg, as it was to insure a bog std 2ltr laguna etc, so he thought why not have luxury

Unluckly mate!
The speed limits in this Country are a joke. Loads of areas around me have just changed from 40 to 30 for no apparent reason
If the roads quiet, not built up or is in an industrial state i do exactly the same as you.
Next time you get stopped just say:
"Look at the size of my brakes, width of my tyres and my Nurburgring sticker on the back Officer!!!! I can pull up faster than Jenson Button in an F1 car. " Flick him the bird and drive off....
Oh no wait... That was a dream.
Anyway, hope it goes ok for you.

But think how many more times likely you're to hit someone going 65mph - it's all relative.
I'm afraid I'm with Cosmo on this one - yes, everyone speeds, I even managed 85mph on a bypass (70mph ) the other night in my 12v.
But anyway, for 65mph in a 30mph, got to be a ban surely, unfortunately...

no, your getting me wrong. Im not even saying 35 in a 30 is OK. He was basically trying to say that doing 1mph over is the same as doing 30mph over as is breaking the law.
I was just pointing out that it is still breaking the law, but is a big difference between the two in terms of reaction times, braking distance, etc.

No, but all he was saying, is that doing 36mph over the speed limit in a 30, looks worse than 36mph over on the motorway, even though they're both illegal.
You're more likely to get caught or banned more speeding in a 30mph. Why do you think the police were sitting there? Because people speed in an area, which isn't designed for speeding. Even though it is an industrial estate, imagine a lorry driver, coming round the corner unexpectedly because you're in the frame of mind that 'nothing is around'. Matt W probably wouldn't be here today. Good job getting caught when he did imo, if not for others safety, but for his too.
