I've heard a few times that you have to watch when using the pepper spray as you can be affected by it as well. For example in windy conditions. Any coppers on here used it before? And I've never heard of armed police being called out to someone with a knife. Surely they are only called out when there is a firearm involved

I was covered in it on Monday after it was used on someone. I was quite lucky in that I only got the residue off the clothing and just had a bit of a sore throat and runny noise. I have been CS'd properly before however and it isn't particularly nice.

Armed response usually called out to knives, guns, anything like that, the idea being police have the option to use a greater level of force be it necessary. Or that is the theory. Will depend on risk assessments made by inspectors as to who goes, depending on the circs.

CS affects everyone - if the wind is in the wrong direction, or person moves, it gets whoever. I have been sprayed, and have fought with people who have been sprayed. I get itchy eyes, a runny nose and loads of phlegm from it. Not nice, but i can still fight if sprayed. Some people are blinded and taken out completely by it. Depends on the individual. A lot of soldiers get trained for exposure so it affects them to a lesser degree for example.

Have you been pepper sprayed before? Or CS'd for that matter? Its somewhat stronger than lynx and where knives are involved, just get firearms unit out.....

TBH if you come running at me with pepper spray, I'm ducking and weaving and your going down like a wilderbeast in the Saranghetti planes.

Incorrect. Thats CS youre thinking of, not Pepper. I dont use CS. Plus we'd never spray someone who is running round like a tit as you described, thats just silly, we do recieve training in when to use it.

As stated, CS effects all in the vicinity. It's an incapacitent, it will make your eyes itch, stuggle to breath, nose/throat hurt, and feels like terrible sun burn on the skin, its not pleasent. We got CS'd in training, direct in the face, and it took nearly 2 hours to wear off, it was one of the most awful experiences of my life, you physically cant do anything but sit in a heap and cry - And it was the same for the other 50 people that got sprayed when I did. If youre in the group when its sprayed, you'll get the CS crystals on your clothes, which can keep reacting as they get into your skin/in your eyes throughout the day

Pepper spray (parva) however, which I carry, just effects the eyes but is a much more intense pain, feels like getting hot needles stabbed repeatidly into you. This has to be a more direct shot than the CS, and doesnt effect big groups of people as much who are surrounding it.

We're making the change from CS to parva, and I think most other forces are, because of tazers getting implimented into everyday use, and its been shown that if someone is CS'd, then tazered, they have a habit of setting on fire..... Parva isnt flammable.

because youve never heard of it it doesnt happen? It happens on a daily basis! Do you know how many firearms incidents there are?
Why shouldnt firearms be called when someone has knives? Would you want to wrestle a knife out of someones hand? Someone who actually doesnt give a fuck if they killed you with it? I wouldnt and im in the job quite aware that i'll get assaulted and injured on a regular basis.

In Durham, all our traffic officers are the firearms officers, They carry a gun on their leg, and have the tazers in the cars, then have the ARV which is the specialist guns car. Imagine how many traffic are on in an area at a time, well theyre usually doubled crewed and thats how many firearms officers there are. May as well put them to use.

I'd do a rolly polly and a forward spring in one continious motion whilst slicing your jugular with my car key, with my anti-spray lenses in to block any sprays aimed my way, I'm the shiiiiiiiyyyaat!

So your telling me that the traffic police carry guns? Are you genuinely in the police because you are trying to feed me a big bag of bullshit.
Police get called out all the time with reports that someone is carrying a knife but I've never seen or heard of the armed response team sent out. What's the armed police going to do? Shoot them on suspicion of carrying a knife. Don't think so. Maybe in the states but certainly not here

are you an idiot??
In durham, as i stated, yes all our traffic officers carry guns, this is not unusual! They all have leg holsters with guns in!
As also stated by myself and gtitm, they have tazers which will be/can be/has been used if someone has a knife.
As also stated, Armed response, and armed police are two different things. Traffic officers are armed police, armed respons is the ARV = gun car.

"Bats and knives", swords could be used though, if the villains weren't discreet.

I've had lynx in my eyes yes

Depends on the situation, impact factors etc. If its a choice of run away and get stabbed in the back, or draw pepper/baton and possibly get out of it, then hmmm. This is a rare situation, I hope im never in it. End of the day, we're tought reasonable force. If im aware that someone has a knife/sword when the call comes in, I probably wouldnt get close enough, as firearms would be called. If someone I was talking to just drew a knife, then would depend on its size, who the person was etc etc. You can never tell how you'll react in that situation untill youre there unfortunantly.

I know the traffic police have tazers but never heard of them being allowed to carry a gun on them whilst out and about trying to catch someone doing 40mph in a 30 zone. I shall google this.

And I just don't think it's legal for armed police to shoot someone who is in possession of a knife. Something else I shall google.

Google holds the answers

1) Come to Durham, get in a car chase, when the traffic officer gets out to lock you up, look at the gun attached to his thigh. I'm off to work now, want me to get some photos of them tonight for you?

2) For the 5th time, no one said you'd just shoot someone in possession of a knife! Thats what tazers are for if theres a risk of someone getting hurt! As also said, we're tought reasonable force, if someones life is at risk, i.e with said knife theyve stabbed someone, or trying to stab someone, they wil be shot/tazered.

Now please read what we're actually writing, and not what you want to hear.

I have been in the situation before where your faced with a surprise knife flicker, it's usually one of them things where you kinda see it happening before it does with the behaviour of that person and the conditions of the space around you, in my case it was dark, late and only me and my mate, when 2 guys with dark clothing on walked past glaring and stopped about 5 seconds after we walked past, so we kinda gave each other the "Somethings going to happen here" look.

You say it depends on the individual your faced with, but it depends on the individual 'you' are IMO.
