Just got back from the hub day.

There were about 20 of us and I was one of 6 chosen to stay after lunch for the interview.

Will find out in about 1-2 weeks and then 15 weeks training and straight out in the field!!!

Totally different to their old apprenticeships because they want fibre optic rolled out

yeah, they've swapped year 1 & 2 to get the fibre installed.

Thanks for the advice! it was perfect!!! Totally knew what to expect and it was the 6 chatty guys who ended up getting picked and all the shy scruffy ones sent on their way.

I heard there isn't much to do at the college and the food is awful, but some of the guys said they got taxis to the town and got drunk

yes its shit - the food is fucking minging and you dont even get freeview, pub there is shit imo aswell

if your exams are older than 5 years you need to do extra maths and english so an extra 2 weeks

the course its self is only 4 one week visits

you will need to do a safety course which takes 2 weeks aswell, i went to livingston formine but most go to yarnfield

good look - another member has a hub soon too so fingers crossed they do well too

Still not heard a bean but thinking back I messed up. I did my application based on how much I wanted the job (fresh start/new career/better use of qualifications etc) rather than why I thought me and my skills would be good for the job. Ah well, there's always next year.

They said they had 30,000 applications or something mental like that!

They wanted people who were in it for the job, so I don't think you messed up.
It seemed to be based on where they had positions available.

Also, they are still doing hub days. They were doing them every day this week and some people were moved forward and stuff.

They recommended to re-apply if nothing happens as it shows you are interested in working for them.

One guy who was there (and got through to the end) applied last year for an old apprenticeship but didn't hear anything, and then they called out of the blue because he was on file.

Ahoy ahoy, I attended my hub day yesterday. There were 20 or so people, I made it into the final 5 and had an interview Was pretty much exactly as john-d and adiohead described to me, so thanks for that Talking to other people there, some had been waiting for the hub day since March last year, and other guys applied in November... whilst I applied the week before last!

Time to wait and see now anyway.

Edit: I also received that email again, 2 days ago!

If you got shocking GCSEs then they wouldn't take you on even if you wanted to.

I'm not sure I want the job. The pay is shit and they kind of tricked us into becoming home installers (rather than proper engineers)

Just as well. I got 5 A-C's, thats what most jobs require in my experience. Its too easy to lie about GCSE's anyway.

You'd of got in with those 5 (that's all they wanted). Oh, and they required all the certificates to catch people lying.

it's a shit job, but it's still a job.

I don't want to take it but I really have no idea what to do. I would like to go to uni but I need to pay my mortgage.
