BODMAS/BIDMAS is reasonably recent (last 10/12 years or so) but i'm pretty sure everyone is taught 'order of operations', certainly my old man was and that was back in the 60s

the question being asked is,
40+40x0+1
not
40+(40x0)+1
so the answer is 1.
theres no brackets because it doesnt need them. you'd only need to add brackets to make the answer 1.
(40+40)x0+1=1
this is fact, im doing maths at degree level for my engineering degree. not that this is even gcse level tbh. my dads 52 and learned bodmas at school

Your a spastic then Kerry, must have gone to spastic school as well, just like me. Wait for the name calling by all the people who can't read a simple maths question.
By the way the answer is 1.
But well done for having a try.

The answer isn't 1, you're not the only one feeling ignored.
The multiplication takes preference because it has a greater dominance for larger values, it's a basic theory which is taught at many levels from the end of juniors right through GCSE and which is relied upon in many related fields.
Ask any computer to do it as one function and it will arrange the operators correctly.
Just because Windows calc does it in the order you type it in doesn't mean it's correct, it means you nominated the order in which you typed it.
There's nothing magic to it, just get the equation and the mnemonic and work through it as per the instructions. Those are the rules.

Switch the Windows calculator to scientific and it'll give you 41 as well.
