It's just tacked in place. It's got to be removed to be welded properly. The original bars going to the back were going to the rear chassis legs, you can see the boxes that were welded in place for this. But the cage needs to be removed to be welded and it wouldn't fit out the door so it's been changed around a bit. Now the rear strut is going to a box he built up on the arch with a cross in it. Then to use the boxes he welded to the chassis legs he's building a rear brace from the suspension turrets down to the chassis legs which should tighten the rear end nicely and hopefully prevent the subframe cracking like most E46's do. Then a bar connecting the rear brace to the cage, hence the bar at the bottom of the cross being put on. This brace bit is all bolt on obviously so the cage can go out the door.
So it's cost a bit more than initially quoted, but It should look the nuts once done and I'm quite liking the idea of the rear brace now, he hopes to have it finished and taken out and properly welded by tomorrow.

If everyone worried about re-sell value during a build/ ownership then the scene would be shit!

Fair play mate, nice to see you're getting stuck in. Love the CSL bootlid

Alan I do miss that car sometimes but very rarely. Great cars if you just want a car with poke on the road just expensive to run for what is essentially a Focus ST with a Mazda badge.

I am confident with the way the M3 market is going that I will easily sell this car once it comes to it anyway. But I'd rather know I'm safe in a car I'm going to be reaching speeds of 160 on a track in than worry about re-sale value IMO.

Hopefully I'll have more pictures tonight, I'm like a kid in a sweet shop at the moment

2 choices in the cage

1: Body colour so Imola Red. Would look good all the same colour but is more of a blend in than in your face colour. Means it would be painted.
2: White. Because I like the red/white contrast as shown by my old Mazda. The brakes being done red with white writing which is where I got the idea of doing the cage white. I think this will stick out slot more and to be honest I'm 75% swaying towards this at the moment. Also I can get it powdercoated so it will be a much stronger finish as the car will need to transport suitcases etc for Nurburgribg Trips.

When I get a chance and get the car back so I can take some high resolution pictures I'm going to attempt a photoshop

The car is proper spec, a cage wont ruin the chances of re-sale at all IMHO

Its gonna sell to an enthusiast not joe bloggs.

Top work looks mega
