When I bought mine I knew it would be expensive to run especially as a daily but I just searched the net for a buying guide and went from there.

Thegsi, are you saying you didnt research the running costs before you bought yours? You didnt ask the previous seller a single question about part prices etc?
No. I had some spare cash kicking around from the Jet I bought from Sly Stallone so thought I'd buy an Evo.

140-160 miles to a tank in an Evo.
Couple of questions
How big is the tank???
How much power?
How much fuel are you pissing out the exhaust?
I was using mind as a daily in all weathers so was running 350bhp, cost to fill the tank was about £60 at the time and depending on who was driving (me or the wife) it would range between 120 to over 300 miles easy.
300 is more like it with 'normal' driving

its not the turbo nature of these cars that gives them the low mpg, its the fact the owners have such big heads to carry around with them

£60 = about 12gallon
150 miles to 12gallon = 12.5 MPG

Yes, which makes it more special than a saloon car with a big engine.
I get they're expensive, I just don't see why they're in some different league to everything else. The running costs aren't that bad compared to any other vaguely interesting car. The only reason I can see that you'll spend a lot is that the internet has told people that you must go to a specialist and use genuine parts, which on an old car I wouldn't really be so worried about. Give £8k for one now, you're going to be getting £5k back in a few years regardless, might get 500 quid more if its got a bit of history but really, you'll have spent that going to the other places, the maths of an internet-spec history aren't there for me.
I'm not attempting to be dick-ish, I'm saying if you want an old car with a big engine, you can probably afford it, the fuel costs will piss you off a bit but it's fast so you'll be happy about that, go for it if you want one. That is less dick-ish than saying if you need to ask you can't afford it, isn't it?

Audi will give you a free new car if you have a full service book of their stamps.

LOL I dont think they would be that bad to own at all, not compared to anything else performance.......
My Impreza used to get an oil service every 4k miles.
My M3 was heavy on just about everything....,£1k major service, tyres V.expensive. 19mpg around town.
RS Focus used to eat tyres & fuel at an alarming rate. 8k miles for a full set of rubber (rotated once!) Think the trip said 16mpg, whether to believe that or not.
Not once have I been snooty about it though if anyone asks. Its the way we learn after all.

Surely you'd need to leave home and move into a caravan/tent?
