Well I took all your advice and went for the slate one :-) Hopefully getting 8m2 delivered this evening or Sunday (turns out the main UK importers also live in Hereford so are delivering it for free!). Also got 10 colour changing (controllable) solid LED strips (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290748544781?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619) - 5 being recessed into the wooden floor as uplighters (2 along each long edge and one along the short edge) and another 5 in the ceiling mirroring the ones in the floor. Will get more pics when there's more physical progress :-)

Here's the cladding that we went for - it's called Z Clad and it weighs a fucking tonne, so I think we may have to rethink plans for the top section of the tank because the panels will need to be moveable for access to the tank, but I am sure we will think of something!
I've only screwed it on for now just to get an idea of what it will look like - we need to remove the mdf panels that were put up temporarily and replace them with concrete board to be able to adhere the cladding to properly, but you get the idea :-)

Oh yeah, I said I would also put up a couple of pics of the AV install - I posted them in one other thread, but just in case you've not been reading that one;

We can't put it flush due to the pillars on the tank, but we are topping off the cladding ledge with 60mm strips of cut slate :-)

I've replaced the triple 250w metal halide light with 8x80w dimmable T5 pendant, and much more pleased with the colours of the tank and the corals now. It's only temporary until I can afford the LED pendant that I want, but it's going to be around £3.5k for the lights so it's gonna have to wait until next year
I'm picking up a pair of these on the weekend too - I did have one a couple of years ago but it mysteriously died after a couple of months and I've had my eye out for a pair ever since, and one has just turned up in a new shop near Skegness so I'm going up there Sunday to get them!
Will also be getting a couple of new corals when I'm there, including the nicest Acanthophyllia that I've seen in the UK so I'm really excited!
Here is a pic of one other one that I have in the tank already. Pic was taken just after feeding it;
and a photo I took on Instagram the other day of the Foxface Rabbitfish and the Catalaphyllia coral in the background.
and an acanthastrea that I've had for a couple of years now;
I'll update the thread again when I've got the new corals and fish

£135 for the pair, which is incredibly cheap - I last paid £140 for the single one!

Good price, very good!
Out of interest, what kind of sharks can you get for a tank like this (and bigger size) and how much do they cost, roughly?

The only shark I would consider for a tank this size is the Epaulette shark, but even one of those would still be pushing it a bit really. Not sure on price as I never looked into it, but the blue spotted ribbon tail ray that I was considering is around £200. When I eventually build my own house in a few years I will be having an indoor shark/ray pool built into the house somewhere :-)

I went to Liverpool to see some friends this weekend so decided to stop off at a new shop called Ocean Germs in Stalybridge (just the other side of Manchester from Liverpool), and got a few new corals when I went to pick up the firefish. I'll get some better pics soon but I took these this morning before work :-)

Yeah I can certainly relate to that! One of those corals alone was £380 (the Acanthophyllia in the 2nd photo). I think it may take quite a while to fill the tank

The tank itself costs around £45 a week in electric but I make about that much selling the chaetomorpha algae from the sump on eBay so it pays for itself :-)

The new macro lens for my camera came today but the battery charger was the wrong one - I'll hopefully get some better pics tomorrow. The Acanthophyllia and Wellsophyllia are stunning under the T5s and actinics :-)

Well there's a been a bit more progress this weekend on the tank (and the house!)
Framework above the tank now finished (after having to remove and refit all the pipework) and the temporary MDF panels removed and replaced with concrete board ready to properly fit the slate cladding.
And "TA DA!!" the whole top panel neatly slides out on six sets of 45kg load drawer runners. We will eventually be getting electrically operated hydraulic rams to open and close it by remote but in the meantime it's easily accessible for cleaning and should look good with the cladding on :-)
