Its using an Arduino Nano board and a sketch that I loaded onto it that I believe is written in C.

What's the arduino using to communicate? I assume this is some sort of radio extender?

it communicates with the parrot controllers using commands listed in the parrot SDK
yes its all connected via a Spektrum receiver, in that pic is a logic level converter, the arduino board and the Spektrum receiver.
Theoretical range of about 2 miles

Many nice fields to see 2 miles away?

Steve once you have fitted the radio gear how does everything operate? Like the auto land and emergency buttons. How do you set it to record and take stills, and how does the live feed work? Does that still come through to your smart phone/iPad?

Been approached by a Drone business to build this mod for them to sell. Could turn out quite interesting

Bit of a test run with the new RC gear, nowhere near its max range but still went pretty far out, quite liked the vid so uploaded it

in other news iv got two companies interested in me building these kits for them, I will make 60-70 quid on each one i supply

Can you fit a speaker on it so you could hover down and talk to people?
I want one now, could fly it round town

Agree with Dom, they guy that's actually spent time designing it and not just soldering it should get the money.

You can add a GPS unit to it yes.
The coding is available on the net, the guy who writes the code offers it as open source, and indeed I have altered it to suit my config.
Hes well aware people are making there own and that another guy in the states is selling them as kits.
Indeed even what hes written is based upon the Parrot SDK, which again is freely available from Parrot
As long as im not pissing anyone off or breaking any laws il start making some and making a bit of cash theres no harm.
Its no different to apple using open source linux then making it into their own package and selling it on, its still based on open source.

There's plenty of these mods about and i suspect everyones nabbing off each other but i just find it odd that a company has approached Steve when there's plenty of step-by-step guides with Arduino code on forums (like so - HERE); why have a middle man
Although fair play to Steve if he can make money out of it....

There is still quite a lot of work to put them together even after all this, hence why there is only one guy in the states doing it at the moment. These companies wouldnt have the spare time to make their own.
Its also not all that easy, there are rough instructions but they are out of date in poor foreign spoken english and designed for the Drone v1, I actually had to spend a fair bit of time working out how to get it to work properly with the Drone 2.0.
Just silly little things at times, like finding a serial plug to solder that has the correct pitch and pins, and using a logic level converter instead of resistors

Fair enough but personally the package you have is pretty poor, in a lot of ways, but it does give you a huge amount of room for improvements and perhaps get you a USP for the product.
