I think there could be some water in what he said. Ok comparing individual specs it's no better, but it's dedicated hardware, run on a dedicated os which makes a lot of difference.

It's near enough the same as x86 architecture and the X1 is essentially Hyper-V for virtualising W8 and Xbox OS.

If you remove cost then the X1 and PS4 don't even come close to the power and performance a PC can offer (rumour is the Jaguar APU is 50% down on power compared to a i7) - it's pretty obvious that

As soon as you factor in cost then the X1/PS4 is pretty decent in terms of spec.

1080p@60fps is not standard for all games on PS4 and Xbox One.
A lot will run at 30fps and some even at lower res.

Isn't this way below what gaming PC's have managed for years?

As he doesn't mention cost, I don't see how there's any sense in his comment at all.

I'll be surprised if the shares don't end up with a fairly even split as with the current generation.

Microsoft have some clearing up to do regarding the DRM debate and the mixed messages they've been sending haven't exactly been reassuring.

Generally it seems we've only seen half the picture with both next gen consoles and so far they don't look all that different.

Prices haven't official been released for the console nor games and Amazon have stated their pre-order prices will be adjusted when they have official word.
