That it is, on a single match basis but not over a whole season. When was the last time that you can recall the team who deserved to win the PL actually failing to do so?
Look at last seasons table, Liverpool were 11 points behind, that is a huge margin.
Chelsea and Man U already have far stronger squads which they are adding further quality to. Liverpool have a lesser squad which they are having to trim back on whilst Rafa rummages down the back of his sofa for any loose change to buy players of a lower standard than their ‘rivals’ are buying. (Why the hell they would want to replace Alonso with Barry is beyond me?)
In all the League fixtures between Liverpool and Man U since Rafa arrived, Liverpool have managed just 1 point. 1 point from a potential 24. That statistic alone underlines Man U’s superiority.
To suggest that Liverpool can surpass 3 teams above them when the top 2 were far superior last season (and the gap is widening further still) is very naïve. They could potentially pass Arsenal who are again in a rebuilding period but that is about it. Football is a results business and as sad as it is, results cost money - something they seemingly don't have a great deal of with the current problems at the club, certainly not as much as their rivals anyway.
Liverpool would be wise to be looking over their shoulder rather than concentrating on the horizon.
