I got one of the bolts out the packet earlier and I do have the right socket lol. They looked different in the packet   oops!
Sean your right about the countersinking yeah. Did you have to do it on yours or are the XE's different?
Also we finally managed to get the rounded off cambelt tensioner bolt off  Jibjob has very kindly offered to give me a new one with a hex head on it so I won't have this problem again. cheers again mate!

Its in the post mate  Theres two in the packet just incase you ever need another one How long until you think it will be on the road? Ive got to wait until tuesday to pick my head up from philip2 and then i can bolt it all back together and hopefully it should work and stay in one piece longer than a month!

No the XE ones don't need it. Should be easy with the big end caps of the car.

Legend! Cheers again Jon  A couple of weeks at the very most hopefully mate. I want it done and run in ready for Trax! Glad to hear yours in on the mend though  I know what you mean about lasting longer than a month though lol. Mines been off the road more than its been on it since I 'finished' it  lol
Also I've just been out and trial fitted one of the ARP bolts and they dont need countersinking The little lip on the inside fits straight through the standard hole bonus!

Ye i took mine apart to fit my inlet, exhaust and cambelt a month before PVS. I had to take it apart 2 weeks after that after it bent all 16 valves, it was all back together a week later just before PVS. A month later it threw a rod threw the front and back of the block and through the sump. I rebuilt a bottom end and put it all together and now a week later its in pieces again
Its all good fun though
Only problem is mine looks no where near as clean as yours

graphogen is one of the best too use. just type it in on ebay.
and for the sump gasket, oil pump gaskets etc use 'wellseal'...doesnt set like silicon and ive never had an xe sump leak after using it.

Thanks for the comments/help all Made some more progress this weekend!
While I was at work on saturday my dad set about removing the valves from the head. Here it is completely bare
Then out come the old valve stem seals
They come out in bits in the end
Now that the head was completely stripped it was time for lots of cleaning The head was decoked and given several paraffin baths so it was as clean as possible. Then the pistons were given a damn good scrubbing -
Valves were next
After
Once they were all cleaned and reground they were bagged up ready for refitting
While we were waiting for the head to fully dry out we decided to crack on with the block side of things
Firstly the bores were given a light deglaze much better now
Then some nice new rings were fitted to the pistons
After giving the bores and crank a really good clean out after the de glazing all four pistons were then fitted along with my ARP con rod bolts
Next up we fitted the new valve stem seals into the head They went in nice and easy!
Finally we have started refitted the valves. God what a bugger of a job this is lol! We've managed 3 so far
Really pleased with the progess we've made to be honest. Its going a lot faster than I thought it would. Hopefully the head should be ready to go back on for next weekend

I wont have for much longer if it decides to smoke again after all this To be honest I've really been enjoying doing it though. I've learnt loads thanks to my dad teaching me as we've done it Can't wait to get it back on the road now though

That is the reason why its all worthwhile. Im glad youre enjoying it mate its what its all about Hopefully those bolts will be with you tomorrow so you can crack on and get it finished! You best pop up this way once its done so i can have a look!

good project this i like it lots i had a x16xe conversion , didnt like the fact had to take engine out to do the simplest of jobs to make it easier so decided to get a e16se and wouldnt go 16v ever again

Jon the bolts are here dude Thanks very much! Yeah we'll have to sort something mate. Would be nice to get some photos of our two together.
Dale everything was all hunky dory yeah luckily. Seriously can't wait to get it back on the road now. Since converting I've not been able to enjoy it properly yet. Im all excited now
Its a good experience Chris You get to know the engine inside out. I didn't know hardly anything about how an engine worked until I started this. I really should have done this the first time round before it went in the car but meh I won't make that mistake again lol.

I wish converting mine was so easy!
Engine rebuilt wise - have you measured the bores when took the head out?
When running in an engine i was advised to use mineral 15w40 oil. change it after 300 miles, change it at 1000 miles and then use normal oil you normally would and use normal service intervals.
Don't rev it over 3k too much too.

^That would have been for "running it in".
Personally, as long as you cover everything in good oil when building it, and you put the correct amount of good oil in it when all built up, and spin it over without the plugs in, your fine to rag it like fuck, most of the actually bedding in is done in the first few miles really.

I was listening to some boy saying something like this last night. About how you should run in an engine depending on how you are going to drive it. Wasn't sure how true it was though.

Yeah Im not too sure what Im doing about the running in yet. No idea how many miles I should be doing, how to drive it, what oil to use etc.
Got a couple more bits done today. Unfortunately we couldn't fit the head on this weekend I've only gone and lost a couple of the valve collets lol. God knows what I've done with them. They must have fallen out the bags when I was cleaning up the valves. Ordered some new ones from Vauxhall yesterday so Im just waiting on those now so I can get the last couple in.
During the week I ordered a couple more goodies for the Corsa though
First up was a rally design quick shifter. I had a go with Sean-b's one and couldn't believe the difference! Made mine feel like a spoon in a bowl of soup! I also bought some MTEC nylon bushes as well to stiffen it up a bit
One thing thats been causing me grief since it went back on the road after the conversion was the cat! The raceland manifold made it sit stupidly low the floor. Scraped over every speedbump, sloping driveways were a no go and it was hitting the floor coming out of pvs! Quick pic using my phone to show how close it is
So it had to go! Heres its replacement, a piper stainless steel decat pipe
Should give me that little bit extra clearance I need. I also want the exhaust a tiny bit louder as well so this should help a on that front. A couple of extra bhp is more than welcome as well
So today me and my dad decided to fit the linkage. The old one was a right arse to get off. Took us bloody ages to get the pinch bolt out that hold the right hand side of the linkage on. Finally got it off and build up the new linkage
Those Mtec bushes are soo tight though. I had to enlarge them very slightly because we just couldn't get the 'T' piece thing back in right when on the car. Got there eventually and set it all up ready to try it out. Feels loads better! Got a nice notchy feeling to it and quite a bit sorter Can't wait to try it on the
road.
Finally seeing as I couldn't do much else with the engine I gave a few bits a fresh coat of paint as they'd got scratched when being removed
So overall not made a much progress as we wanted but still got a few bits done
