Can anyone explain to me why the police just stand there?

I keep hearing it's all going to be fine, now 16000 police officers have been deployed - but they all just still stand there and do nothing at all...

Increasing the number of officers means nothing if they're not allowed to go and apprehend people committing crimes.

We had to have 7/7 to introduce the new anti terrorism laws which are now used for just about any wrong doing so I suspect new wave of laws to be introduced after this which will only ever have an effect on law abiding citizens
