yeah I agree ... I am going to prebook for the first few days - firstly to take the hassle out of finding somewhere, but also so I dont do too few or too many miles in a day. From there on in I will target a town each day and get someone at home to book accomodation for me.

I dont really think im someone who can keep stopping and taking photos and sight seeing ect ...for me this is about doing the training and covering the distance - its gonna be april so the weather could be dreadful - I dont want to be on main roads all the time so I am looking at routes that are scenic without going too far off the track. I have seen some peoples journals who only do 20-30 miles some days - that just doesnt appeal to me. I would love to put in a few 100 mile plus days along the way.

First club 10 I have managed to make this season. Did a 29.09, exactly 2 minutes slower than I managed on my first one last season. Got lots and lots of cycling needed ahead to improve on that.

Thats good going Rick. What are the courses up your way like?

I seem to have done something to my knees. Since last wednesday I have been in agony. I tried riding to work on tuesday and I wanted to stop. I pedalled faster though as i thought the quicker I get to work/home the quicker the pain will stop.

Annoying as my new bike arrived yesterday.

There you go Jamie. The course is ok, not that hilly but when you have given it your all for 5 miles on the ride out the little climbs on the way back feel like mountains! For some reason the Garmin time is actually a minute slower than the official time keeping. I guess its because I sat on the start line for a minute waiting for my slot.

What bike have you got? Bad news on the knees, had you been hammering it a lot?

Ah yeah I saw that. Looks like a fairly decent course. Ive bought some TT bars to clip onto road bike so hopefully I can knock a bit of time of my TTs. I really enjoy them though like you say, they hurt.

Just bought a Cannondale Supersix. First ride tonight even with the knees. Ill just take it easy.

Steady ride tonight, The Monkey has been fully re-opened after contractors ruined an amount when felling.

I pulled a muscle in my calf the other night, I thought it was a bit of cramp, so carried on till I couldn't do anymore, which was about 30m, I was on my way home, so was able to roll the rest of the way home.

I think it was because I hadn't been out for a while, when I was doing my project.

Yeah you'll be alright just take it at a steady pace. Get the legs moving.

Decision has been decided I'm going for steel and will get a Genesis Equilibrium, all the reviews say that the wheels are heavy (but durable) and the standard brakes are a bit poop. So, I think I'll build one with light wheels and decent brakes - my question is; Shimano 105 or Ultegra? Is Ultegra worth the extra money - I'll be buying a full groupset as a kit from somewhere?

You will need tubes, pump, energy gels 4 will be enough for you you won't need them for first 50 will you? Just pace yourself steady and stay calm.

You will be fine

I would take a bank card or cash. As a last resort if you are blowing you can always nip into a shop/petrol station for a chocolate bar and a full fat coke.

I have 1 spare tube + puncture repair kit, worth getting another tube?

cash + bank card will be on me along with phone.

got multitool + levers with me.

its the dougie mac ruby ride, there will be a fair few people there but most are doing the 50mile route, there are a fair few people doing the 110 but imagine they are all pros/club members.
