at the end of the day diesels are an aquired taste. when i was 17 i had a mk3 fiesta 1.4 ghia i thought i was the dogs danglies in it. then my mate got a 1.5td nova, it was slightly slower buit a lot more fun to drive. then when my fiesta stared dying i knew exactly what i wanted. seem as how i do 35 miles every day and im a student on shit money i knew the best option was a diesel, a corsa turbo diesel it had to be. it was very slightly slower than the nova but i didnt care. theres something to be said about driving turbo powered cars wether a denzil or not its quite fun to drive, something you wont appreciate till you experience it which most of u probly havent.
So younguns like me and vauxbubble have got TDs, so they aint fast theyre about equivilant to a 1.2 16valve as standard. but you canget a few more horses out of the TD for sweet FA in comparison to what youd need to do on a petrol car. and feeling the power boost from the turbo brings a smile to my face every time
mmm lovely essay

and the dump valve!!!!!
lets face it. my 1.3cdti has a variable vane turbo, common rail injection, ave run temp of no more than 400 degrees, FAR more tuning potential than a petrol equivalent, becoming more and more desirable, quality economy, very quiet engine etc. slag diesels off-whatever. soon petrol will be 2nd best im afraid

mine sounds pukka when drivin in fourth and fifth. this thread started by me sayin iv had a diesel and i think its rapid for what it is.in the middle we had the 'diesels are shit slow people', and now its closing as diesels can b gud. i love my new car-far superior to my z12xe. but thats my opinion. if motorists themselves can have any say in diesel/petrol sales figures, they are reflected in my works sales achievements for the past year. diesels are improvin more and more all the time. its just a matter of time until i think petrol is 2nd choice

They do the Corsa SRi 1.7 CDTI as well, 100 bhp, 177 lbs of torque which seeing as it has a reasonable amount of power is not fookin bad.

Skoda Fabia RS. It's ignorant to say that you have to have a petrol engine if you want performance. With modern diesel technology they are just as good in many respects, and better in others than petrol engines.

Yeah corsadave, open your eyes mate Ford are bringing out performance ST's very soon, including a perforamnc diesel ST fiesta, and just look at the Mondeo ST diesel, its quicker in every respect than its V6 brother, and thats the range topper. Please look at VW's Toureag or however you spell, the V10 diesel is one of the most amazingly powerful engines ever made for the mass market. The new line of diesel vauxhalls is impressive too. What is not so impressive is someone blabbing on about a 1.3 common-rail diesel in a corsa. It may have powered the eco-speedster, but it was tuned beyond that in your corsa, and the thing that made it so efficient wasnt the engine, it was due to the tiny amount of drag it creates. Diesels in my opinion are great, im driving a 1.8 diesel 205 at the moment, and i cant moan at 280miles on half a tank However my next car would definately be a petrol one, since i am after true performance from a high revving motor.

the thing that puts of desiel is the extra price you have to pay. i personally cant see th logic in paying £1500 - £3000 more money for something that may only do 10mpg more.
I understand all the tuning potential and that but Thats my opinion
