Totally fcuked off with the car. Repaired the damage after the random valve breaking incident, fitted the new cams with new lifters, belt, valve stem oil seals, HG, bolts, In/Ex gasket etc etc, got it running wed night ready fro Jamsport to map it on Thurs. The car was running fine when I left the workshop at 11pm, idling fine etc. Returned early Thurs morning to finish off getting the car ready (bonnet, grille, wheels back on) packed the car up ready to go, tried to start it and after a few failed misfiring attempts it locked solid and that was the end of it. So last time it was fixed I did 250miles this time 0miles. In total probably spent £2.5k on bits and bobs this year and covered a massive 250miles....

Sorry to here your havin probs oli !

Take it you don't know why it happened or what damage there is yet. Would be gutted if you decide to get rid, it is one of my favourite novas, built for one thing. Beating more expensive cars love it!

Stick with it and you will be happy again when its running well.

I hope you keep her!!

Hmmmmm, seems I may have been a little hasty...

I went to PVS today and that combined with some persuasive and very generous friends (Lee Hersey in particular ) have convinced me to hang onto the nova for a while.

So firstly let me apologise to everyone for acting like a brat and stomping my feet, unfortunately there wont be parts available (at least not just yet).

Secondly the plans are initially as follows; Fit a standard 1.6 16v with my throttle bodies bolted on and enjoy the car like that for the near future. Whilst doing that, take my broken 1.6 16v and rebuild it properly. When I say properly I don't mean 10k rpm and 2million hp, I mean strong and reliable so that whatever power it has can and will be utilised fully all the time.

So again, sorry for spitting my dummy out. Watch this space!

some persuasive

Haha, very persuasive hey! What actually happened is I told Oli we'd buy the shell off him and stick a proper engine in it (2.0 16v) and he crapped his load at the prospect of the car being totally awesome and said there and then he was keeping it

Going to collect my replacement engine from Lee Hersey this sat! I'm informed it needs the head refitting, so I'll get the Hg kit ordered before the weekend. The plan is then to remove the current lump on Fri/sat, collect the new lump sat eve and fit it Sunday...but as we all know plans rarely run to schedule!

I played a little game of hide and seek with an exhaust valve today, there's some good hiding places, especially picture 3! Took me ages to actually see the valve!

And a busted up spark plug for good measure

Reckon if I'd saved all the head bolts up that I 've thrown away, I could've weighed them in for scrap and bought a new head!

Glad you aren't giving up on it, have been following your build. Once you get it all sorted and running you will have a very impressive car to show for your efforts.

I never even noticed the valve in the 3rd when I looked at the pics!

Lets hope it results in a feature, random late night call from 'Paul' from TV asking my address, might turn out to be a pikey stealing my nova
