Split screen co-op
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWhx77Jk7p0
copy/paste :
Today is one huge MW2 leak-fest it seems. Portions of the October PSM3 magazine (PS3 gaming mag from the UK), specifically the article Shock and Awe have hit the CoD forums bringing with it new information about the game.
Rob Bowling provides an explanation of the customizable killstreak, from the article:
"...You can have a three killstreak or a fifteen killstreak if you want, so something like the AC-130 is one of the highest killstreaks you can select."
Therefore, you can choose your killstreak reward! Noobie players might not want to set killstreak awards so high, as they might not ever get them. Instead, they can set smaller killstreak targets, leaving the better players with the ability to achieve more powerful rewards for uber-fragging.
Other confirmed items:
1."...five Special Ops missions will be open to you when you first boot up the game and you'll earn stars as you complete each one - with three on offer for the completion of the hardest difficulty, two for the middling one and a measly one should you plump for a simpler experience. Once the stars start pouring in further mission bands will open themselves up to you, going form the five-level strata of Alpha (easy), Bravo, Charlie and Delta all the way to the summit of Echo's three level escapade...Contained with these will be the aforementioned Elimination mode and a few snowmobile timed trials, but also scenes in which you and your buddy must fend off wave after wave of enemies with well-placed claymore mines and sniper rifles in the fashion of CoD4's Pripyat finale."
2. "...another whispered game style...will have one player high above in an AC-130 gunship taking out buildings and infantry with bleak monochrome visuals and inhuman battle-chatter, while the other dashes around a more explosive battlefield.
3. "...Spec Ops is not just a cut/paste affair...We were shown a map taken from the campaign, a network of houses in hilly Russian woodland with a farmstead surrounded by solar panels at the foot of the incline. here ghillie-suited snipers lay camoflaged at the perimeter, while Spec Ops-only bad guys called Juggernauts lumbered through the level coated in body armour that only the most powerful of weapons can pierce. Whether you prepare for a siege in one of the arms-filled houses or take on your foes in open countryside is up to you...Improved AI means that each bout will be noticeably different to your last.
4. The article describes an "Elimination" mission played in Rio's Favela level. You are tasked with taking out 40 AI militamen.
"...the AI...are far in advance of Call of Duty 4 - they're far less tied to cover and much more liable to take advantage of the level's cut-throughs and side-alleys to sneak behind you."
5. Grenade physics have been added. Nades now roll around after they have been tossed and can even back up towards you if they have been tossed straight up.
Unconfirmed items spotted by the author's of the article:
1. "...in an early viewing of MW2 your eagle-eyed correspondent noticed a level in the build labeled 'International Space Station'...we're taking bets on the first level being space-bound and dealing with a spy satellite falling to earth, providing the context for the early mountain-top Cliffhanger level."
2. "...the rumor-mill has it that the Chernobyl radiation-ravaged ghost town will be making a grand re-appearance - although whether that will be in the main game or simply in cherry-picked moments dished up for the new Special Ops mode is as yet unknown"

Hans Zimmer game for 'Call of Duty'
Oscar winner will take on his first video game project
By Georg Szalai
Aug 27, 2009, 110 PM ET
NEW YORK -- Oscar winner Hans Zimmer is writing music for his first video game-only project, scoring the soundtrack for "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2," one of the year's most anticipated releases.
The sequel to the first-person action best-seller "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" comes from Activision Blizzard's Infinity Ward studio and hits stores Nov. 10.
Zimmer's Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency confirmed the project.
Zimmer's film resume includes "The Dark Knight," "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Gladiator," "Rain Man" and "Driving Miss Daisy." He won an Oscar in 1995 for "The Lion King." Upcoming movie work includes "Sherlock Holmes" and "Inception."

Not suprising, they were filmed on a handy cam so were essentially leaked videos.

Yeah true, although I doubt the devs or anyone above him in the compnay would have been impressed. There's so much hype surrounding new video releases that they will want to officially release something that looks amazing and is well edited together.

Think the gun at the end is the Kriss Super V Submachine, which is a nice .45 with low recoil.

Bashandslash's break down of the new MP video
Note the end of the vid shows a throwable knife...deja vu for PC CoD fans? Yes, the throwable knife is yet another PC community first. We had throwable knives in CoD2's eXtreme+ v1.6 mod. Sevensniff had made the knife model (Pat, Tnic making the script).
That's three items that MW2 has taken from eXtreme+ alone: KillStreaks, the controllable AC130 and the Throwable Knife.
One could add "Server Add to Faves"...but it was done a long time ago by community-modder Bullet-worm. Speaking of Sevensniff...he made "sticky nades" back in CoD4 (X4 v3.0) ...that's FIVE community-influenced game features.
The PC CoD community appears well ahead of its time.
(Thanks to pst*joker from mycallofduty.com for the better memory).
But back to CTF...
The sissification of CTF
As you all know, I'm a big Capture the Flag fan. Ok...I'm a HUGE CTF fan, so I should be elated right?
Obviously I'm excited that CTF is back - given that IW skipped over that gametype with CoD4. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long for it to make a comeback when CoD:WW re-introduced it. With MW2 set to become the biggest FPS game of all time, it would not have been right for IW to have left out CTF, a staple FPS gametype.
But look at the "Flag runner" video a bit closer and there are some issues I need to raise:
1. Progress bar to grab the flag?
Instead of running by and "Grab"-bing the flag at a gallop, the progress bar forces you to stand there and wait. Admittedly, the time required to wait seemed awfully quick...perhaps a "flag-runner" perk is being used, but it is not clear.
The bigger question is why we need a progress bar at all.
My guess is that IW thinks that MW2 CTF gameplay was imbalanced and tilted against the flag's defenders and thus they have tried to restore balance by making it more difficult to steal the flag. Why this could not have been accomplished by more defensible flag positions I do not know.
2. A Sabotage-like "KILL" icon.
3. A "KILL"-return instead of a "TOUCH"-return to return your flag.
Watch the end of the CTF part of the vid closely.
Note that DK05 whacks the enemy flag carrier IW-Hyphen just before capping the flag.
Instead of the flag simply falling it instantly returned. Does that mean that we now have "kill" return; that is, a captured flag will return back home if you kill the fellow carrying the flag. You don't have to run up and touch it - as was the case in previous CoD CTF's? Or is it simply that IW hasn't added the "flag drop" visuals?
My guess is that this (hopefully) will be configurable on PC's...on consoles, I cannot guess how they will be able to make it switchable.
Note that kill-return modes have been in most CTF community mods for a very long time.
As a "purist", I'm a little disturbed by items 1 and 3 above. I am happy with CTF the way it was in CoD2 and in my opinion it has been over-embellished for no reason. PC modders I am sure will take care of these issues.
Other notes of interest
- Note the excellent teamplay in the video. There is an AC130 (IW TSUEnami) covering the flag extraction - check out his multi-kills. The riot-shield wielding player in front of DKo5 draws a great deal of fire without dying allowing the extraction team to return fire and take out the defenders.
- DKo5 (scripting specialist at IW) and IW Hyphen are clearly identified as flag carriers
- Classes displayed: Silent Veteran, Surgical, Suppressor, Sgt., The Specialist, Boom! Headshot (an homage to Teh Pwnerer), Armed and Dangerous.
- Note the scoring: 50 Pts for a kill. 50 Pts for picking up the flag (Flag Runner). 100 for achieving a kill streak. 100 for returning the flag and 250 for capping the flag.
- Killstreaks: 3 killstreak = UAV, 4 killstreak = Airdrop, 5 killstreak = Predator missile,
- Weapons displayed (approx times):
0:19s, 34s SCAR-H Bling
0:20s Riot Shields
0:59s AA-12 (Atchisson Assault Shotgun)
12s UMP45 Extended Mags (Upgradable Guns, ability to have larger magazines)
14s TAR21-FMJ
16s Missiles (RPGs?)
1:12s USP.45
1:38s Double attatchments!
1:39s Barret 50. Cal is back.
1:50s Throwing Knives (welcome to eXtreme+ everyone)
Note "Bling" might refer to the MW2 equivalent of the old "Gold" Cammo in CoD4.
- For the console guys, at 1:42s IN-GAME Host Migration. If your host goes to dinner...the game host automatically migrates to a different player.
- Look at 1:51s "Bullseye!" Challenge

About fucking time that in game host migration happened. I'm sick to death of folk leaving after one round, and taking the game with them! That does look mightily immense and I for one will be taking a week off of work when it arrives
