Yeah its like tiptronic style, downwards to go up & upwards to go down
Im confident that if either of you drive a SMG you'll be sold on it & wonder why you've been using your left leg all those years like a sucker!!

How weird that today sat at traffic I saw one in this exact colour on the otherside of the road. Looked better in the flesh than in pics.

Is it a smooth gear change or snappy like the M5? The press seem to moan about the snappyness of the M5's gearbox

Apparently its snapping when chaning up with the paddles when you keep your foot to the floor but smoother if you lift off between changes.
The convertible I went in recently was a lot quicker than I thought it would be and considering it weights the same as a church it handled sooo well!
Also the auto mode is a simple affair as its not a proper auto box its essentially a manual box with loads of slave cylidners and solenoids that do the changing up with you flick the paddle/gear shifter

Smoth I thought, in auto it takes you right up the gears as quick as it can, its an electronic auto & not torque biased like proper auto's 'apparently'. When I 1st took control I set off from a roundabout onto a 60 road & got up to speed at a steady pace & I glanced over to the gear indicator thing on the clock binical & it said I was in 6th............this was within a matter of seconds & I didnt think it was in top gear.
In manual mode its a bit snappy, but the guy said your meant to lift of for a second while changing up to make it smoother. I never noticed anything bad however, it was fairly refined.
Stick the foot down & it just growl's at you, wiggles its bum a bit & pins you into your seat.
I cant wait to pick it up......its going to be some drive home

Welcome to the land of BMW Col!
I went round Nurburgring in a SMG2 M3, the boy driving lifted off between changing cause he said it made it a bit smoother, but also cause it can be quite hard on the 'box.
He then proceeded to ruin his 2 week old brakes in 2 laps. Never been on something that is so brutal and quick. You'll love it mate.
