any motorway driving ive done - specifically the M1, ive stuck in the middle lane for the majority of the journey. The way i look at it, if im constantly over taking cars in the inside lane why the fuck should i have to keep moving between the two?
Because it's part of the highway code, the code that all drivers must legally abide to whilst driving!

I think its incorrect to consider speed in isolation. Lane positioning isn't about absolute speed, it's about your speed relative to other cars. And if they approach behind you faster with an interest in overtaking, you need to not be there.
That doesn't matter if you're going 40 and the guy behind 50, or you're doing 180 and the guy behind 200. You're still in the wrong place when someone goes faster behind you.
Unless you can be sure that no one is going faster behind you - which you can't - you can't be in the overtaking lane when you're about to be overtaken.

Soooooo guessing your an expert on judging people's speeds just by looking in your drivers mirror????
Bottom line..... THE SPEED LIMIT IS 70MPH FOR A REASON BONEHEAD!!!!!! ITS CALLED THE LAW!!!!! LERAN IT BEFORE YOU KILL SOMEONE OR CAUSE AN ACCIDENT!!!!!

awaits flaming, but you can speed and do it safely, police cars are an example of that (and before anyone days it, yes accidents happen occasionally!)

Unless it's a traffic cop who has been trained properly pandas cannot drive fast safely, they can barely drive slowly safely, the stickered up car and lights must affect driving.

20 and 30 limits are for sticking to, everything else is fair game IMO as long as you are driving to suit the road/traffic/weather conditions.

M6 toll is a race track, the minimum on that seems to be 70

The M6 Toll seems to be quite well patrolled though, I assume it's because they know people will hammer it as it's such a nice bit of motorway...

But I was doing 70mph, which is the national speed limit on the motor way. I can actually stay in that lane can't I?
But its just polite to move over
no 3rd lane is for over taking
Your the sort of badger who does my head
Fair enough if your overtaking at 70 and making head way but people who sit in the outside and middle lane because they are doing 70 cause congestion

Have you ever attended an RTA and found three young children decapitated in the back of a car?
Or been in the wrong place at the wrong time and had someone bounce off your bonnet and come halfway through your windscreen then be looking at a manslaughter charge because the injured party's life is hanging in the balance?
Both of the above I have and both were attributed to excessive speed.
I was the driver of the second incident and I was doing 80mph on the M6 and the guy was drunk and decided to cross the motorway as a shortcut home at midnight.
I got prosecuted for it and yeah, I admitted that I was speeding and that I'd also had a pint.
My arse was twitching as a result and THATS why I wont lighten up because I wouldnt wish the above to happen to anybody.
Also, the people on here who think its ok to speed would be the first one's to post up a sob story on here after they got pulled by the police and given a ticket then be spinning the whole 'havent the police got anything better to do....'.
Then be asking everyone's opinion on what sort of punishment they could be expecting
The laws the law for a reason and its those that get complacent that tend to fall foul first

How did you manage to get prosecuted for that.
80 on your speedo would have been barely over 70 and how are you suppsed to see a drunk on the motorway at night.
I don't believe that.

I'm frankly surprised that there is sufficient evidence to prosecute for 80mph.

I don't believe that.
They called accident investigation teams and measured my skid marks and they worked out that I was doing 80mph at the time of impact.
The motorway was fully lit and they charged my for driving without reasonable consideration, gave me 3points and 300 pound fine plus 180 in contempt for telling the judge to get fecked.
He said that I should have expected the unexpected, paid more attention and that I could have done more to avoid the accident. Thats why I gave the judge my response
And if I'd been doing 90 I would have definately killed him

Anybody who is stupid enough to mouth off to a judge in court probably shouldn't be in control of a car, there's no chance that's the full story.
