There will be instances where there is no financial benefit to sending children to childcare/nursery as it might cost more than the parent earns or the parent might be able to claim a little bit of benefits, plus save the fees that nursery would charge. In that case, it's the system that makes it more appealing to not pursue work. What would the point be, short-term?

Ah, that's fair enough then,
they went to nursery fairly recently then, it seems a lot better managed these days than say 10+ years ago, which was why I asked the question.

I had a really good job, actually earnt more than russ
Russ job now is pretty decent as hes worked his way up on the NHS
We had a baby and she was 6 weeks old and i got made redundant
Used the redundancy money to live off until baby was 1 years old and then took a job cleaning pub toilets and working behind a bar during hours that suited us for for sharing the childcare i.e valuable evenings and weekends
Got a bit fed up of it so now working my way back up the ladder as a supervisor/duty manager for the holiday inn but still working majority of evenings for childcare purposes
Thats what I call making sacrifices to be able to hold your head up high and say I earn my living!!!!

My Mum has always worked when she has had kids.
This time round she was around 40, where as before where family looked after us when Mum was out working on the land, she felt she was too old for it now.
Solution? She became a child minder.
That way she was able to see my little brother and sister most of the time, and earn money.

There is a lot more to it than the film stars being paid. IE the knock on effect to the economy, businesses and companies closing shops for example. Its all one going on a rage against those seeking benefits but those who do id hope they do everything by the book.

Good few years she has been doing it now.
When you look at it, it is rubbish money per child, she gets like £3 per child per hour or something. But then she can have sometimes 8 kids, so not bad.
Only problem is nowadays OFSTED expect you to be like a teacher, you have to have religious books, teach kids things and stuff, not just sit and play.
